Brittany N. Williams an American author and actress, known for young adult historical fantasy trilogy The Forge & Fracture Saga and her short story in the Star Wars From A Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back anthology.

Personal Life and Education

Williams holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Howard University. She recieved MA in Classical Acting from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.[1]

Writing Career

For the 2020 Star Wars anthology From A Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, Williams wrote short story Faith in an Old Friend, focusing on droid characters on the Millennium Falcon during the trilogy's final film. All authors featured in the anthology forwent compensation, with proceeds benefiting nonprofit First Book.[2] The anthology was received positively by fans.[3]

Williams' first novel, That Same-Self Metal, was published on April 25, 2023 to mixed critical reviews.[4] Despite this, it was a finalist in the Lambda Literacy Award category for young adult novels. Reactor Mag listed it as one of the "Most Anticipated Young Adult SFF/H for March & April 2024"[5] Ms. Magazine wrote, "Diligently researched, exquisitely written, super-fun and full of fae, this YA fantasy is pure queer magic."[6] The book was praised for its representation by The Nerds of Color, with the novel depicting a diverse view of Elizabethan England and the main character's connection to the Yoruba religion.[7] In interview with Publishers Weekly, Williams noted that attention to detail in research was important for her, as many women and non-white people had been "so callously and intentionally forgotten" throughout history.[8]

The second novel in the trilogy, Saint-Seducing Gold, was published in 2024, receiving a more positive review.[9] The final book, Iron Tongue of Midnight, is slated for a 2025 publication date.[10]

Acting Career

Williams is a SAG-AFTRA union actress, with several credits to her name. She starred in AMC's 2024 crime drama series Parish.[11] She is also credited in the OWN drama Queen Sugar (2016) and Freevee Original Series Leverage: Redemption (2021)[11].

Stage

Williams starred in the 2014 revival of Bob Marley's Three Little Birds at the New Victory Theater.[12] Playing the character Nansi, she received a Helen Hayes Award Nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Resident Musical.[13]

She was also a cast member in the 2014 New Federal Theatre production of The Fabulous Miss Marie.[14] The production received positive reviews. TheaterMania wrote, "...minor weirdness aside, there's plenty to like about this excellent revival: The outstanding cast brings Bullins' characters into sharp focus, offering a vivid snapshot of the not-so-distant past."[15]
