DB Cargo Scandinavia A/S (formerly Railion Danmark Services A/S, then DB Schenker Rail Services A/S, then DB Cargo Danmark Services A/S) is a Danish rail freight company. The head office is located in Taastrup near Copenhagen.

Until 2018, the company was a joint venture between DB Cargo (formerly Schenker Rail, before that Railion) with 51% of the shares and Green Cargo with 49% of the shares. Since then, the company has been 100% owned by DB Cargo AG.

History

The company was founded as the freight transport division of the Danish state railroad company Danske Statsbaner (DSB) under the name DSB Gods. DSB sold the division to Railion in mid-2001. Since then, the company has operated under the name Railion Danmark. In December 2007, Railion and Green Cargo signed a joint venture agreement under which Green Cargo acquired a 49% stake. The company is a pure production company. As part of the reorganization of Deutsche Bahn's branding in December 2007, the company was renamed DB Schenker Rail Danmark Services shortly after its foundation on 28 February 2008 and DB Cargo Danmark Services A/S in 2016. In the same year, the company was renamed DB Cargo Scandinavia A/S. The cooperation with Green Cargo ended in 2018, after which DB Cargo Scandinavia became fully owned by DB Cargo AG.

Activities

In October 2023, DB Cargo Scandinavia opened its first maintenance workshop for locomotives and freight wagons in Frederica. The workshop will create around 40 new jobs for technicians and mechanics to maintain the company's own fleet of 52 locomotives. They leased the 5,000 square meter building complex, which previously belonged to the Danish railroads DSB, for an initial period of ten years.

DB Cargo Scandinavia started a first test run to the northern Danish port of Hirtshals in Jutland together with Nordjyske Jernbaner on the second of May 2024.This newly developed connection to Norway could shift up to 20 percent of truck transports on the route to rail. According to DB Cargo Scandinavia, shifting a freight wagon on the Hirtshals - Duisburg route to rail saves around 1,600 kilograms of CO2. From 2025, Hirtshals will be an important location for CCS in former Norwegian oil and gas fields, so the so-called Skagerrak Express has great potential.

Rail transport

DB Cargo Scandinavia transports goods in single wagonload and block train services in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and other European countries. The company also offers intermodal transportation of containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers.

Terminal services

DB Cargo Scandinavia offers 24 intermodal transhipment options in Denmark and Sweden through its own terminals and railports as well as through partnerships with other operators.

Railports

• Railport Aalborg has three loading tracks with a length of 1,800 meters and two warehouses with a storage area of 7,000 m².
• The Aarhus Railport is located on Aarhus Bugt near the Danish national road 15 and has 2,400 m track capacity.
• The Fredericia railport, located on the Little Belt, has two 600-metre-long loading tracks and 18,000 m² of indoor and outdoor storage space.
• Close to the Danish freeways E47, 17 and 18 is the Glostrup railport with three loading tracks 500 meters long and an area of 10,000 m² as well as three warehouses with a total area of 4,000 m².
• Railport Herning is located near the Danish freeways 12, 15 and 18 and has seven loading tracks with a length of 915 meters and a warehouse storage area of 1,000 m².
• Railport Kolding is located on the Kolding Fjord, has seven loading tracks with a length of 1,750 meters and offers a total storage area of 56,900 m², of which 30,000 m² is in six halls.
• In the south of Copenhagen at the port of Køge there is a railport with a loading track of 200 meters, which covers an area of 85,000 m².
• The Ringsted railport is located on the Danish freeways 14 and E20, has a loading track 200 meters long, three warehouses covering 40,000 m² and an outdoor area of 30,000 m².
• The Rosersberg railport is located near Stockholm and is used as a terminal for last-mile connections with major distribution warehouses in the CEP, food, consumer goods and recycling industries.
• Railport Vamdrup is located near the Danish freeway 25, has a 150-metre long loading track and 25,000 m² of storage space.
• The Taulov railport has a 600-metre long loading track and a storage area of 4,000 m².
• Railport Vejle is located in the Vejle Port and has two loading tracks with a length of 2,000 meters and a storage area of 25,000 m².

• The railport Rønland is located on the western coast of Denmark as an industry track for the chemical industry.
• The Esbjerg railport and combined terminal is located on the western part of Jutland at the North Sea close to the E20 Fynske Motorvej.
• The Nyborg railport is located on Fyn by the sea, right next to the Great Belt Bridge and the E20 motorway.
• The Frederiksværk railport is in Northern Sealand in Eastern Denmark close to the rute 16 as an industry track for the steel industry.  
• The Hirtshals railport is located next to the motorway 39 at the northern tip of Jutland on the Skagerrak near the coast of Norway.
• The Malmö Railport is located at the Öresund in the south of Sweden and provides storage areas of 2,400 m².
• The railport Nässjö is in the south center of Sweden on Riksväg 40.
• The Norrköping railport is located next the Fjärd Bråviken close to the Swedish motorway E22.
• The Hallsberg railport is in the south of Örebro close to the Swedish motorway E20.
• The Borlänge railport is in the center of Sweden close to the Swedish motorway E16.

Intermodal terminals

• The intermodal terminal Høje Taastrup is located in the Copenhagen metropolitan region, has two loading tracks with a length of 1140 meters and offers space for handling and storing 1500 20-foot containers.
• The Taulov intermodal terminal is located as a central distribution hub near Fredericia on Jutland, has two loading tracks with a length of 1230 meters and offers space for handling and storing 900 20-foot containers.
