Humberto Hernandez (known as DJ Dez Andrés) is a house and hip-hop DJ and Producer from Detroit. Dez met legendary Detroit hip-hop producer J Dilla through Detroit musician Amp Fiddler in 1992 and Dilla recruited Hernandez to DJ for his group Slum Village.[1] Dez later became a well regarded House DJ and producer under the name Andrés, releasing several records on Moodymann's Mahogani Music.[2] Dez was born and raised in California before moving to Detroit. While in California he worked at Buy-Rite Records.[3]He is the son of percussionist Humberto ‘Nengue’ Hernandez and received his first drum set at the age of three. [4]. He has his own label in Detroit, La Vida.[5]
