DR.Exoskeleton[1]

[edit]

is a nonprofit organization ran by an anonymous group based somewhere in the Seattle Washington area. They run public social events during PAX[2] (Penny Arcade Expo). The Dr.'s event is heavily trivia based but ranges from scavenger hunts, phone games, prize collection and fully costumed fan interaction by their "Minions".

Dr.Exoskeleton's existence and activity can be traced back to well over a decade of this annually celebrated event, though there is no sourced specific creation date. There are traces of their existence in 2010 and before, discussed in niche forums such as PA - Exo Thread and Reddit - Exo Thread

Location and Occurrence:

[edit]

Once a year, this group hosts the Dr.Exoskeleton games at the PAX West (Formerly known as PAX PRIME) gaming convention, at the [Convention Center][4] In Seattle WA. They have also hosted a couple events in Boston and San Antonio Texas, but this seems to be anomalous to the very recurrent Seattle based events from which they originate.

Who is Dr.Exoskeleton?

[edit]

There is much speculation, but no confirmation of their identities nor ties to PA and Reedpop. But there is certainly some relationship which has been cultivated, as they are provided with exclusive access to PAX Convention center rooms, private access, and assistance in maintaining anonymity via back room and security clearance level entrance. It is rumored that not even PA or Convention center staff know the identity of the creators at Dr.Exoskeleton, but perhaps [Holkins|Jerry Holkins] and [Krahulik|Mike Krahulik] do.

Due to the nature of permissions within their convention, and sometimes even the use of likeness of their [Arcade][5] comic characters within the Dr.Exoskeleton phone game.

Lore:

[edit]

The Lore of Dr.Exoskeleton is not well documented online as of yet in any kind of comic or digitally kept narrative, but many recounts of story and plot from players of the game over its extensive existence can help paint a general understanding of the more well known points.

Dr.Exoskeleton is a mastermind "evil" villain who runs a compound known as Exo Corp. The doctors primary goal throughout all of the characters existence has been to consume the souls of participants, and completion of the game is a display of worthiness to be consumed. There have been written plots for invading and taking over PA with varied levels of success each year, as well as "tests" where the players are given the option to betray the Dr. Usually leading to a finger wag of sorts. Within the ranks of Dr.Exoskeletons subordinates, there are a plethora of named characters such as: Minion Overseer, Minion 00143 ( Dubbed The Peoples Minion or Swag Minion by fans), Jim, Office Minion, Perry, Totally Real Gabe, Totally Real Tycho, Legal Minion, Cuno Clone, Sonic Clone, Investigator Minion (Many More N/A)

Despite being written as an evil villain, the group has managed to work with charity organizations

and also claim to fund the whole project annually out of their own personal accounts.

And an endless amount of Minions with a number code attached to them similar to 00143, but without any specification or significance to cannon.

Minion 00143

[6]

These characters take place in a text game run on the Dr.Exoskeleton website, and the Minions are portrayed live in person at the convention wearing full Plague Doctor garb with very notable baroque floral pattern jackets. These Minions walk the convention center fully silent, if you attempt to speak with them they might pantomime as a form of communication. They are also likely to hand you a game invite envelope if you are not already a participant, or hand you a flashy business card which expresses the minions inability to speak and references you to the email or socials of the Dr themself.

The Minions open a participation reward booth coined by the doctor themself as Soul Exchange Station various times throughout the convention where you can exchange in game currency earned by progressing in the game for real world rewards such as Lanyards, mugs, hats, stickers, friendship bracelets, post cards, patches, pins and more.

History Brief:

[edit]

Historically, in the early years of Dr.Exoskeleton there was no in person interaction. Envelopes were found mysteriously hidden or dropped over the few days of the convention, and it seems this is the mode in which the game came to be. Curious convention goers picking up seemingly randomly discarded envelopes with an ominous introduction letter that invited them to participate in this willing soul consumption process. In the result of winning back in these times, the winning teams would have direct email correspondence with the Dr. and once they provided a PO Box or Address, the Dr. would ship them plaques or prizes pertaining to the year of completion. In much contrast to current day, where all prizes are accounted for and picked up by the player during the convention center at the Prize Booth. Including the 1st 2nd and 3rd place prize plaques on the final day of the game.
