Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation is a mortgage lender with headquarters in Madison, WI and Carrollton, TX. The company is incorporated in Texas.[1] Fairway has 2500 employees and was included in the US News best places to work in 2024.[2] .

History

The company was founded in 1996. Steve Jacobson, is the founder, and CEO of Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp, he is a graduate of the Wisconsin School of Business.[3]

In Oct 2024, a civil penalty was imposed on the company in the amount of $1.5million for redlining black neighborhoods in Alabama.[4] Since 2009, Fairway has operated in the Birmingham-Hoover, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area (Birmingham MSA) under the name MortgageBanc, a company that it acquired in 2009.[1] Fairway's practices allegedly discouraged black residents from applying for loans. [4] In addition to the penalty, the company also agreed to pay $8 million as part of a settlement with Department of Justice. In a press release after the settlement, the company stated that it was not shown the allegations before the settlement was reached and that it served more black customers than any other non-black lender with a physical presence in Birmingham, Alabama. [5] The company currently has a 4.41 out of 5 rating on Better Business Bureau. [6]

Data Breach

In Feb 2024, the company filed a notice with the Attorney General of Massachusetts informing a data breach that compromised of consumers' names, Social Security number, dates of birth, addresses, bank account information and credit card account numbers.[2]
