Faisal Malik is the veteran theatre director of Pakistan[1], artistic director of Thespianz Theater[2][3] and the founder of Thespianz Foundation Pakistan.[4] He was born in Lahore, Pakistan and moved to Karachi[5]. As an artistic director of Thespianz Theatre, he collaborated with Oxford University Press Pakistan and organized a groovy dance flash mobs to raise awareness about book piracy in Pakistan[6], directed a children motivational musical theater play "Pappu Ka Paneer" and staged at the children literature festival - Lahore after performing it at Karachi, Tokyo, Malawi and Jakarta[7], an Urdu theater play "Jama Poonji" to create financial management awareness among the masses[8] and recently directed a social comedy theater play "American Desi Family" and staged it at Chicago[9]. He also revived the old dying art of string puppetry in Pakistan[10], brought it to the stage in Karachi[11] and educate people about the rare diseases[12]. His directed puppet show presented the colors of Pakistan through a provincial cultural performance with the mission to promote a positive image of Pakistan around the world and spread Pakistani cultural awareness among the young generation[13].
International ParticipationHe delivered a lecture at the University of Chicago to highlight the performing arts scene in Pakistan, aiming to change perceptions about the country. He emphasizes the importance of genuine art over vulgar content and shares his experience of running unique projects like the Flying Classroom[14] and performing internationally[15].
Festivals
He organized Pakistan String Puppetry Festival twice in Karachi, Pakistan in which the puppeteers lead the message of tolerance in Pakistan[16]. It was the longest ever puppetry festival in Pakistan[17] that staged 300 shows in the first phase of the festival[18], whereas 330 shows staged in the second phase of the festival[19]. These festivals aimed to heal the city by virtue of entertainment[20] while promoted acceptance[21], Pakistan’s culture and inter-religious harmony[22], conveyed a positive message to the people and promoted inter-faith harmony[23], promoted peace and harmony[24].
He also organized a three days Thespianz Folk Festival in Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur[25] to promote peace and harmony through many folk artist performances[26] and elimination of extremism and intolerance from society[27]. The festival was concluded with performances celebrating Sufi culture, including horse dances, folk jams, and Cholistani Thari Qawal[28].
