Harivyasa devacharya (c. 15th Century,[1][2]) also known as Harivyasa (Sanskrit: हरिव्यास देवाचार्या, हरिव्यास, romanizedHarivyāsa devācārya, Harivyāsa) was an Indian philosopher, theologian and poet. He was born in a Gaud brahmin family.[3] He was the 35th ācārya of the Nimbārka Sampradāya. He also sent his twelve main disciples on missionary work throughout the India each of which founded their own sub-lineage, a few exists today.[4][5]

  • Premabhaktivibardhinī – A Sanskrit commentary on Śrī Nimbārkaṣṭottaraśatanāma (108 names of Śrī Nimbārka) of Sadānandabhaṭṭa.
  • Tattvārthapañcakam
  • Śrī Gopāla Paddhati - The ritual manual.
  • Mahāvāṇī– The famous Braj language lyrical composition Śrīmadbhagavad Bhana Padāvalī, commentary on his preceptor Śrībhaṭṭa’s Yugalaśataka.
  • Vedānta Siddhānta ratnājñalih commentary on Vedanta KamaDhenu dashashloki of Nimbarkacharya.[6]

Influence

Harivyasa devacharya is linked with many extraordinary occurrences, The most renowned of these is his initiation of Durgā in the village of Caṭathāvala, an event famously recounted in the Nabhadāsa Bhaktamāla chappaya 77.[3]

Mahāvāṇī

The five chapters of the Mahāvāṇī are Sevā Sukha (128 padas), which describes the daily routine of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa, Utsāha Sukha (189 padas) detailing the celebration of the various festivals, Surata Sukha (106 padas) revealing the intimate pastimes, Sahaja Sukha (107 padas) going into further details about the couple, and Siddhānta Sukha (44 padas) which summarises the philosophical position of the nikuñja līlā meditations.
