The Irish Olympiad of Experimental Science (IrEOES) is an individual science competition for Transition Year and Fifth Year students.[1] The competition is subject-based, focusing on biology, chemistry, or physics.[2]
Eligibility
[edit]Participants must live and go to school in Ireland, be in Transition Year or in Fifth Year, and be born on or after 1st January 2007. For some editions of the competition, participants must be under 16 on December 31st of the year of IrEOES.[3]
Competition Structure
[edit]Round 1
[edit]The first round of the competition takes place online1.[3]. In the 2023-2024 edition, Round 1 took place online on Saturday, October 7th, 20231. Approximately 150 students participated in the biology competition, and about 60 each in the chemistry and physics competitions[1]
Round 2
[edit]The top students from Round 1 are invited to attend Round 2, which is held annually in Dublin City University (DCU)3.[2]. In the 2023-2024 edition, Round 2 took place on Saturday, November 11th, 20231. A total of 83 students participated: 30 in Biology, 30 in Chemistry, and 23 in Physics[1]
Round 3
[edit]Round 3 of the 2023-2024 IrEOES took place in Dublin City University on Thursday, January 18th, and Friday, January 19th, 2024. The contestants were given a fair but challenging test.
