Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. - Comment: The only one of the sources which provides reasonably significant coverage of House of Brandy is #3, but it is a primary source and therefore doesn't count towards notability per WP:GNG. The others mostly don't even mention 'House of Brandy', or provide only passing mentions. DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:53, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
KWV House of Brandy
[edit]KWV House of Brandy, a South African brandy under the KWV label, was established by Dr. Charles William Henry Kohler in 1918[1], becoming one of the first brandy producers in the Cape region of South Africa. KWV House of Brandy is known for its variety of potstill brandies[2] and is recognized as the largest brandy distillery in the Southern Hemisphere, housing over 120 copper potstills[3]. These brandies include over eight variants, all double distilled and aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of three years. The brand is known for its variety of blended and potstill brandies, which include nine expressions of different ages, namely KWV 3, KWV 5, KWV VS, KWV 10, KWV 12, KWV 15, KWV 20,[4] Nexus and Centenary.[5]
KWV has gained international recognition.[6] in the wine and spirits industry, receiving several awards including the title of Brandy & Cognac Producer Of The Year at notable competitions such as the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC)[7] and the International Spirits Challenge (ISC)[8]. The brand's commitment to quality and its heritage in South Africa's winemaking region contribute to its standing in the global market[7]
Today, all KWV brandies are produced in Worcester using Chenin or Colombard grapes. These grapes are selected for their low sugar content and high acidity. The grapes are crushed and fermented to create wine, which is then placed into the potstill for distillation. The initial distillation produces low wine, which undergoes a second distillation. During this process, there are three stages: the head, heart, and tail. Only the heart, the purest form, is placed into barrels for maturation.[9]
