Draft:Klaus Scharnhorst

  • Comment: You cannot use "he claims" and similar. You have to have independent sources for his positions. I addition, I do not see any demonstration of notability. His effect paper is still conjecture, and not that well cited. No indications of major awards to indicate peer recognition. Ldm1954 (talk) 13:06, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Klaus-Jürgen Scharnhorst is a mathematical physicist currently working at the Free University Amsterdam under the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Sciences.[1] [2] He has made contributions towards quantum field theory and quantum electrodynamics, notably the Scharnhorst Effect.[3][4][5][6][7]

Scientific Biography

[edit]

Undergraduate education

[edit]

Scharnhorst first became a student of physics at the Department of Physics of Humboldt University Berlin in 1979. According to Scharnhorst, he worked as a graduate student at the 'Theory of Particles and Fields' division from 1983 to 1986; however, he received his first academic degree in 1984. [8][9]

Postgraduate education

[edit]

Scharnhorst's account then states that he worked as the Assistant professor at the 'Theory of Particles and Fields' division from 1986 to 1990.[8][9] During this time he finally graduated as a Dr. rer. nat. (PhD) in 1987. [2] He also states that from 1987 to 1988, he recieved Fulbright stipend, Department of Physics, Harvard University, Cambridge.[8][9] This aligns with the publishing of his 1987 paper "Background Field Method and Effective Action" at the Lyman Laboratory of Physics Harvard University Cambridge.[10]

Postdoctoral activity

[edit]

After 1990, Scharnhorst states that he worked as Assistant professor at the Interdisciplinary Seminar (INTSEM) of the University of Leipzig for 2 years.[8][9] From 1993 to 1994, Scharnhorst would be featured as a guest scientist at the Universities of Leipzig and Tübingen. From 1994 to 1996 and then 1996 to 1997, Scharnhorst alleges that he became a member of the Marie Curie Fellowship (EU Human Capital and Mobility Programme) at the Department of Physics, University of Wales Swansea and Marie Curie Fellowship (EU Training and Mobility of Researchers Programme, Return Fellowship) at the Institute of Physics, Humboldt University Berlin respectively.[8][9] It is worth noting that Scharnhorst's account aligns with the affiliated universities of the eight papers he published from 1990 to 1997.[2][4] Finally, from 1997 to 2002, Scharnhorst would again be featured as a guest scientist, now at Humboldt University Berlin. After 2002 and to the present day, Scharnhorst is a guest scientist at the Free University Amsterdam under the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Sciences, where he continues to do research with Eberhard Wieczorek as his advisor. [2][7]

Publications

[edit]

Scharnhorst's notable works include the Scharnhorst effect, introduced in his February 22nd, 1990 paper titled "On propagation of light in the vacuum between plates". [11] His full list of publications can be found here.
