The SACIDS Foundation for One Health, a member of Connecting Organizations for Regional Disease Surveillance, is an African One Health institution set by African scientists to develop Africa’s capacity for prompt detection, identification and risk management of infectious diseases (including antimicrobial resistance) in people and animals.[1][2][3][4][5] SACIDS was founded in January 2008, by universities and national research institutions which deal with infectious diseases of humans and animals in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa and Zambia[6][7]. Sokoine University of Agriculture was peer-elected to host SACIDS.[8] SACIDS was transformed into an institute status in 2018 and designated by the World Bank as an Africa Centre of Excellence for Infectious Diseases of Humans and Animals in Eastern and Southern Africa in 2016.
