Sisowath Phuy (RTGSSisowath-Phuy; Thai: สีสุวัตติ์ ผิว or ศรีสวัสดิ์ ผิว, Khmer: សុីសុវត្ថិ ពុយ) was a Cambodian princess and the daughter of King Sisowath of Cambodia who became the consort of Siamese Prince Khunjang Nobawongse who was the grandson of King Rama IV.

Early life[edit]

In 1857, Princess Phyu was born in Bangkok because King Rama IV of Siam as the overlord of Cambodia had called her father, Sisowath along with 2 of her uncles, Norodom and Si Votha to live in Bangkok as his adopted sons but Princess Phuy was born from a Thai mother, Neam (Thai: เนียม, Khmer: នាម). Later, her father returned to Cambodia, but she continued to live in Bangkok until she grew up.

Life as Siamese consort[edit]

In 1879, Princess Phuy became the consort of Prince Khunjang Nobawongse of Siam. The couple had four children together but two died, leaving two daughters who lived to adulthood. After the death of Prince Khunjang Nobawongse in 1888, Princess Phuy moved to live with the Princess Suddhasininat Piyamaharaj Padivaradda (Princess consort of King Rama V) for a period of time.

To Cambodian court[edit]

After living with the Princess Suddhasininat Piyamaharaj Padivaradda for a period of time, King Sisowath took Princess Phuy and her two daughters back to Cambodia. During the trip to Cambodia of Prince Damrong Rajanubhab in 1925, Princess Phuy at the age of 67 and her half-sister, Princess Sisowath Pintara Sodarret (Khmer: ស៊ីសុវត្ថិ ពិន្តរាសុដាររេត) at the age of 30 came to welcome him, but 2 daughters of Princess Phuy had died before the coming of Prince Damrong Rajanubhab. Damrong Rajanubhab said about Princess Phuy "...พูดไทยชัดกิริยามารยาทก็เป็นอย่างผู้ดีชาวกรุงเทพฯ อัธยาศัยเรียบร้อยน่าชม ได้พบพวกเราสังเกตดูว่ายินดีมาก ยังยกย่องพระคุณของพระอัครชายาฯ ซึ่งได้มีมาแต่หนหลัง สนทนาปราศรัยกับพวกเราเข้ากันได้อย่างสนิท..." (English: "She spoke Thai well with Bangkokian manners. She looked very pleased when she met us. She also praised the Princess Suddhasininat Piyamaharaj Padivaradda. We talked intimately.")

Issue[edit]

Two of her daughters, Ketsodasi and Harinaratna, were commoners in the Siamese court because the royal title ended with their father. So, King Sisowath appointed them princesses of Cambodia.
