Stan Adard (born March 31, 1954) is a Swiss digital artist, filmmaker, and former musician known for his innovative approach to digital art and his advocacy for conscious breathing as a tool for mindfulness and well-being.
Early life and education
[edit]Adard was born on March 31, 1954, in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. His civil name is Ralph Marcel Stucki. He earned a Master's degree (lic.phil.I) in Social Pedagogy, Social Psychology, and Sociology from the University of Zurich, which made him interested in human behavior and well-being.
Career

[edit]Before pursuing a career in digital art, Adard was a keyboarder and singer for the Swiss prog rock band Nautilus from 1974 to 1981. During this time, Nautilus released two albums, "20'000 Miles Under the Sea (4)" and "Space Storm (5)," gaining recognition in the music industry.
Entrepreneurial venture
[edit]Adard co-founded Rotron Electronics AG in 1978 and Rotron Software AG in 1988, where he served as CEO and chief system architect. He contributed to the development of ERP systems like dimSoft, europa3000, and greenCube.
Artistic work
[edit]Starting with the two Nautilus album covers in the late 70’s, Adard won the Swiss Video Award in 1983 with ‘Careful with that Axe, Eugene’, and created his first digital art animation film ‘Digital Dreams’ in 1995.[1]
In 2014, Adard shifted his focus to digital art and invented The Breathing Pictures, digital artworks crafted using 3D modeling and rendering software. These artworks are characterized by their flow and rhythmic movements reminiscent of human respiration.[2]
Each artwork in "The Breathing Pictures" reflects Adard's exploration of rhythm and movement, meticulously crafted to simulate the natural ebb and flow of breathing. Drawing from diverse inspirations, including Buddhism, humanism, and spirituality, Adard infuses his creations with layers of meaning.[3]
As a pioneer in digital flow art, Stan Adard's contributions have expanded the boundaries of artistic expression, sparking innovation within the digital art community.[4]
Astradream and Collaborations
[edit]Adard co-founded Astradream 2014 with Peter Fibich and Mihaly Horvath, an agency that organizes events centered around conscious breathing. The agency collaborates with various artists and organizations to promote mindful breathing and well-being. Events showcase Adard's "Breathing Pictures" alongside other artistic expressions.[5][4]
Filmmaking and Recognition
