Stephen CuUnjieng is a Filipino investment banker and financial expert. He serves as an independent director on multiple companies.[1]

Early Life and Education

CuUnjieng completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Doctor of Jurisprudence at the Ateneo de Manila University. He later earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Career

CuUnjieng writes a weekly column for The Manila Times, focusing on investment, business, and finance.[2]

Notable Public Engagements

In early 2023, CuUnjieng gained attention for his critical analysis of the proposed Maharlika Investment Fund, a sovereign wealth fund initiative in the Philippines. He expressed skepticism about the fund's implementation and global perception, noting that it was viewed as "nothing" in the international financial community at that time.[3]

In January 2024, CuUnjieng commented on the appointment of Ralph Recto, stating that "a good finance minister needs to understand that government financial issues are not simply limited to finance, but must appreciate that there are social and political ramifications to financial and economic policies."[4]

Personal Life

CuUnjieng is married to Maitoni del Rosario, and they have two sons and one daughter. Their son Miguel is married to Yam Concepcion, while their son Enrique is based in Singapore. Their daughter, Nicole CuUnjieng, holds a PhD in History from Yale University.[6]
