Comment: When referencing, the cited source must actually support the information against which it is cited. There is no point in simply citing a website home page: for example, ref #5 should point to a URL which confirms (FWIW) that "the editor-in-chief of Al-Mowaten [...] encouraged [al-Malki] to study journalism"

Salman Al-Malki (born September 16, 1990) is a Saudi journalist and editor-in-chief of the Ajel news platform. He has been serving in this role since November 2017 after holding the position of managing editor from 2013. Al-Malki began his career in digital news publishing at Sabq electronic newspaper in 2007, prior to studying journalism at King Saud University, from where he graduated in 2013.
Journalism career
[edit]Al-Malki started his journalism career at Sabq in 2007, where he was involved in digital news publishing. In 2013, he resigned from Sabq and joined Ajel, an electronic newspaper. Since then, he has contributed to the growth of Ajel, particularly the launch of its English news platform, aimed at broadening the publication's reach to non-Arabic speakers within and outside Saudi Arabia. In 2019, Al-Malki appeared on MBC's "Interview" program, where he discussed the motivations behind the English-language expansion of Ajel, citing the need to provide accurate information about Saudi Arabia to a global audience. [2]
Al-Malki is also the managing director of Ejaz Electronic Publishing Company, the parent company of Ajel. His leadership has been credited with expanding the newspaper’s social media footprint, making it one of the largest in Saudi Arabia. [1]
Notable Interviews
[edit]In 2018, Al-Malki conducted an interview with Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, making it the first interview of a Saudi news outlet with the head of the Egyptian Orthodox Church. [3] The Pope discussed the importance of Saudi-Egyptian relations and praised Saudi Arabia’s recent reforms
In addition, Al-Malki has made several notable public appearances. On April 2, 2011, he appeared on Bahrain’s national television to address plagiarism allegations involving the Bahraini newspaper Al-Wasat during the 2011 Bahraini protests. [4]
On June 20, 2022, Sultan Al-Malki spoke to the Egyptian newspaper Youm7 during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Cairo. He noted that 2021 saw the highest trade exchange between the two countries and highlighted the visit's focus on regional challenges, including preparations for President Joe Biden's upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia and the impacts of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.[5]
On March 5, 2018, Sultan Al-Malki spoke to Dot Masr, emphasizing the significance of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Egypt as his first official foreign tour since becoming Crown Prince. Al-Malki highlighted the ties between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, noting their efforts to address regional challenges such as combating terrorism and supporting Yemen's legitimate government. He also underscored the cultural and political importance of the Crown Prince's meetings with Egyptian religious leaders and his attendance at cultural events, reflecting Saudi Arabia's commitment to openness and cultural exchange.
