José Chapur Zahoul founded the hotel chain The Palace Company, previously known as Palace Resorts, in 1984 with the opening of the Cancun Beach Club in Cancun, Mexico, a 162-room property currently known as Beach Palace Cancun.[3] In 1990, the company opened Sun Palace Cancun Puerta al Sol, introducing its first all-inclusive plan. During this period, the company established itself under the name Palace Resorts[4] with the support of a New York-based consulting and branding firm.

In September 1996, Moon Palace Nizuc was inaugurated with 731 rooms, followed by Moon Palace Sunrise in 1998, which became the company's largest complex by room capacity.[5] The Moon Palace Arena Convention Center was added and inaugurated on May 6, 2014. After a period of growth and consolidation in the 2000s, the company shifted its focus to international expansion during the 2010s and 2020s. In 2005, the company opened three new properties: Cozumel Palace in May, Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun in August, and Playacar Palace in December. In 2015, the company expanded internationally with the opening of Moon Palace Jamaica, originally known as Moon Palace Jamaica Grande.[6] A year later, in 2016, the group inaugurated Moon Palace The Grand - Cancun, adjacent to Moon Palace Cancun. Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos, the company's second adults-only property, opened on February 1, 2018, expanding the group's portfolio to the Pacific coast. [7]
