History

[edit]

The VYO was formed in Kobeliaky, Ukraine in 1991[4] by Ukrainian guitarist Sergey Pidkaura and Ukrainian singer of Nigerian origin[5] Myroslav Kuvaldin.[1][3][6][7]

In 1995 they won the third place at the all-Ukrainian song festival Chervona Ruta.[3][6][8][9][7]

In 1997 the band signed a contract with an art agency "Terytoriia A". They had been placed in rotation on the national television and reached the peak of their popularity.[2][3][7]

Since its establishment, the group was splitting and reuniting regularly until they announced an official disband in 2000.[3][7] At that time Kuvaldin started a career of a TV host for the channel M1.[6][8][10]

On August 21, 2008 the band announced a reunion and started working on the next album "Ganja" that was released the same year and included older works from the period of 1995–1998.[3]

During the Euromaidan in 2013, The VYO supported protesters.[2]

On February 10, 2018 The VYO participated in the Ukrainian national semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.[7][11]
