Umer Aalam (Urdu: عمر عالم), born on April 24, 1993, is a Pakistani theatre, television, and film actor and model, best known for his work in Urdu television and for winning Tamasha Season 1, Pakistan's adaptation of Big Brother, in 2022. His journey in the reality show garnered widespread public support[1] and marked a turning point in his career, leading to increased popularity and recognition in the entertainment industry.
Early Life and education
[edit]Umer Aalam was born in Sialkot, Punjab as the middle child with an elder and a younger sister. He completed his early education in Sialkot before moving to Rawalpindi in 2007. Initially pursuing BS Physics at COMSATS University Islamabad, he later switched to BBA and completed his degree.
Career
[edit]Theatre beginnings and early work (2012–2017)
[edit]Umer started his acting journey in 2012 with a university theatre group and auditioned for Anwar Maqsood's play Siachen,[2] which was staged in various Pakistani cities and abroad. During the production, he and his castmates reportedly underwent a rigorous preparation process, including a four-month period of house arrest to enhance the realism of their performances.[3] Despite limited pay, this experience became foundational for Umer's career, and he went on to perform in another play titled Bananistan by Kopykats Production[4]
Transition to television (2018)
[edit]After his success in theatre, Umer moved to Karachi to pursue a career in television and film. He joined Citrus Talent in 2019 as a model and actor, which led to a series of television roles. His notable early roles include Pehli Si Muhabbat (as Nadeem) and Shehnai (as Ahsan). Umer has since played major supporting roles in popular dramas like Raqs-e-Bismil, Berukhi, Meri Shadi Karwao, and Nehar.
Breakthrough and recognition (2022—present)

Reality television

In Ultimate Muqabla Season 2, he finished as a runner-up alongside Nadya.[8] Additionally, he co-hosted Khel Kay Jeet – Ramadan Edition 2022[9] on Express Entertainment alongside Sheheryar Munawar, with other celebrity contestants.
Personal life
[edit]Known for his dedication to acting and commitment to fitness, Umer has aspirations to become an action hero and has taken up kickboxing.[10] His hobbies include kite flying and sketching.
Name history
[edit]Umer's official documented name is Umer Iqbal, but he changed his stage name to Umer Aalam in 2020 on the advice of his mentor. His new last name is adapted from his grandfather's name.
