A podcast is a presentation in digital format accessible through an internet connection. The term was first used in 2004, and it got its name through a combination of the words “iPod” (a type of media player) and “broadcast”(1). A podcast is normally an audio program; however, some podcasts also include video. Podcasts are like radio programs where the host discusses different topics, plays music, or includes other features for the listener. One of the most popular ways to access podcasts is through apps that provide access to a content library.

Podcasts have several uses in education, such as foreign language learning. Research has shown that using podcasts as a language learning tool improves student test scores and increases student engagement(2). Podcasts can be used by both teachers and students. For example, listening to people speaking the target language, allows students to learn about everyday expressions and vocabulary of the target language. Another example would be teachers assigning podcasts for students to listen to, to hear different types of pronunciation of the target language. Podcasts can be an effective tool for language learners.
