Draft:Varkana Jagir

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barkana or Varkana was historically part of Mewar, not Marwar, until the 16th century.

Between 1423 and 1433, Maharana Mokal of Mewar awarded land to Sultan Singh Selarwal Rajpurohit. Around the same period, Maharana Kumbha initiated the construction of the Varkana Jain temple.

Over time, Barkana became known as "Bhom Ki Jagir," with governance shared between the Rajpurohits and the Rajputs (Champawat clan).

In 1704, Gopinath of Ghanerao brought Varkana under the control of Ghanerao, thereby aligning it with Marwar.
