Draft:Yvette Noel-Schure

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yvette Noel-Schure (born 1961 or 1962) is a Grenadian public relations executive. She is best known for her work with high-profile clients such as Mariah Carey, Prince, Destiny's Child, Chloe x Halle, Will Smith, Jessica Simpson, and Beyoncé.[1][2] Due to her influential client list, Noel-Schure has been described in the media as performing "the most important work in the entertainment business."[3]

Early life

[edit]

Noel-Schure was raised in a religious family in Grenada with six siblings.[4] At a young age, she began to take care of her mother, who was living with a then-undiagnosed bipolar disorder.[5] Her father was a police officer who traveled a lot for work, so she and her siblings were raised partly by their grandparents.[6] When Noel-Schure was 14, the family moved to the United States.[7]

Career

[edit]

After graduating from the City College of New York, she landed a job with Black Beat Magazine as an editor in 1985.[8][9] She covered entertainment stories involving public figures such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, New Edition, New Kids On The Block, and Babyface.[10] In 1993, she was tasked with writing a review of Mariah Carey's third studio album, Music Box. Though gaining access to Carey's label proved difficult, Noel-Schure was determined, constantly calling Larry Jenkins, an executive at Sony Music, so she could get a copy of the album. Impressed by her tenacity, Jenkins offered her a public relations job at Sony.[11] After a reluctant acceptance, she was assigned to work with Carey, her first client.[12][13]

Four years later, Sony signed R&B girl group Destiny's Child and, due to her past experience interacting with young superstars, she was chosen to handle their publicity; this led to the start of her decades-spanning professional relationship with Beyoncé, who was the group's lead singer at the time.[14] She rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Media at Sony Music, creating publicity campaigns for celebrities such as Adele, Prince, Jessica Simpson, John Legend, Wyclef Jean, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, and Will Smith.[15]

In 2010, she left Sony Music to co-found Schure Media Group, a publicity firm based in New York and New Jersey, with her husband, David Schure.[16][17][18] Beyoncé and Prince chose to sign to her new firm.[19]

Reputation

[edit]

Noel-Schure is known for her, having been singled out for her work by Forbes, Billboard, Essence, ELLE, Variety, and Yahoo. Alongside Taylor Swift's publicist Tree Paine, Billboard notes that both women's "supreme skills have earned them their own social media stans".[20] As Beyonce's publicist, ELLE credits her with "shaping, managing, and executing the messaging of the world’s biggest modern icon".[21] While receiving the Berklee College of Music's inaugural Master of Global Entertainment Award, she was described as "the most relevant PR professional within the music and entertainment industry today".[22]

Personal life

[edit]

At 17, she met her future husband David Schure in New York. In December 1982, they got married. The couple has three children.[23] After the 9/11attacks, they agreed that one of them had to work from home to stay with the children. Due to the demands of her job at Sony, her husband transitioned from his management job to working from home.[24]

In June 2023, her close friend Josiah "Jonty" Robinson was murdered in Grenada in what was suspected to be a homophobic hate crime. Together with actor Tyler Perry, she offered a $100,000 reward for anyone who had relevant information connected to the crime.[25]
