English: Datestone set into interior wall of inner hallway of Bydown House in the parish of Swimbridge, Devon, showing on a sprig of ivy sculpted in relief, an heraldic escutcheon displaying the arms of Nott (Gules, on a bend engrailed or between four leopard's faces two and two argent an estoile of eight points between two martlets of the first) (Source: Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry, 15th Edition, ed.   • Or, three bars gules (Berry of Chittlehampton, representing the 1617 marriage of William Nott of Cobbaton, Swimbridge, to Ellinor Berry, a daughter of John Berry of Chittlehampton. This family was descended from the Berry family, lords of the manor of Berry Narbor, near Ilfracombe, Devon)
  • Sable fretty or (Bellew of Yarnscombe, for the 1644 marriage of John Nott (son and heir of William Nott and Ellinor Berry) to Mary Bellew, sister of John Bellew of Yarnscombe. The Bellew family was a co-heir of the Fleming family, lords of the manor of Bratton Fleming)
  • Gules, on a bend argent three trefoils slipped vert (for the 1677 marriage of William Nott (son and heir of John Nott and Mary Bellew) to Mary Harvey, a daughter of James Harvey and co-heiress of her brother James Harvey (of the Harvey family of Aylesbeare, a branch of which is today represented by Hervey, Marquess of Bristol )
  • Per pale gules and azure, a (pair of) barnacle(s) argent (Wyatt, for the 1711 marriage of John Nott (d.1726/36) of Cobbaton (son and heir of William Nott and Mary Harvey) to Agnes Hamond (d.1760), only child and heiress of John Hamond of Okewill (whose paternal grandmother was Jane Wyatt, daughter of William Wyatt (3rd son of Philip Wyatt (d.1592), Steward and Town Clerk of Barnstaple (1562-3)) and heiress of her four brothers who all died without progeny)
  • Argent, two bars gules in chief three torteaux (Mules, for the 1762 marriage of James Nott (d.1790) to Amy/Emme Mules, daughter of John Mules of Tawstock; This was a branch of the locally prominent family of Mules of Ernesborough in Swimbridge which built St Bridget's Chapel (North Aisle Chapel, now the vestry and organ chamber) in Swimbridge Church and was descended from the mediaeval magnate John de Moels, 1st Baron Moels (1269–1310), feudal baron of North Cadbury in Somerset.
