French R vs Spanish G

[edit]

Dear user:Broman178, thanks for your improvement. I needed to notify you that the French R sounds closer to the Egyptian ɣ. The way users use symbols is misleading since the Spanish consonant (allophone) is a very weak approximant which sounds very different from the Egyptian sound. Thanks. --Esperfulmo (talk) 14:36, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for raising this. I don't really have a strong opinion on the [ɣ] symbol anymore (I changed it to the Spanish approximation at the time because many IPA Help Pages on Wikipedia used the Spanish approximation so I wanted consistency around that time) so if you feel the actual phonetic realisation of that sound in other languages is different to the sound in Spanish, feel free to change it although I would suggest you check the other IPA Help Pages which have that symbol and make sure the approximations for that sound are consistent with one another.
