International reactions to the 2024 United States presidential election

Several reactions from governments, individuals, organizations, and multi-nation institutions around the world emerged for the re-election of Republican Donald Trump for the 2024 United States presidential election on 5 November 2024.

States

• Australia: Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese congratulated Trump on Twitter for his victory. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and former Prime Ministers Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison also congratulated Trump, as did many other Australian politicians. Greens leader Adam Bandt referred to it as "a bad day for America, a bad day for Australia, and a bad day for the world".
• Canada: Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau stated that today's world was "an even more complicated place" than during Trump's first presidency, and assured his commitment to work with the Trump's administration "for the good of both countries".
• China: Spokesperson for the People's Republic of China's Foreign Ministry Mao Ning stated that the Chinese government respected the choice of the American people, and expressed the administration's desire for maintaining Chinese–United States bilateral relations with "mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation for win-win".
• France: President of France Emmanuel Macron, while congratulating Trump, advised him of the importance of "counting with Europe" for the big international challenges.
• Germany: President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Olaf Scholz congratulated Trump and stressed the United States as a "strong partner" of Germany.
• Hungary: Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán was reportedly one of the first national leaders to congratulate Trump on his victory, referring to his victory as "the biggest comeback in US political history".
• India: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi congratulated Trump on phone while emphasizing on further strengthening the India-US relationship in the fields of technology, defence, energy, space and several others.
• Indonesia: President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto gave his heartfelt congratulations to Trump on Twitter, emphasizing the Indonesian-United States relationship holds immense potential for mutual benefit and expressing that he is willing to work together with the incoming Trump administration. Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly Ahmad Muzani hoped that the relations between both countries can be improved further for the better and all conflicts that happened currently may be resolved under Trump's leadership.
• Iran: Spokesperson of the Iranian government Fatemeh Mohajerani said that the election of the US president "does not have a clear relationship with them", and stressed that "it doesn't really matter who becomes president of the United States" for the Iran-United States relationship.
• Israel: Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the re-election of Trump as "history's greatest comeback", and gave congratulations on 6 November. He held a private call with Trump where they reportedly discussed the threat that Iran posed to Israel and possible plans for countering them.
• Italy: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the "sister-nation" bond between both countries and expressed her desire for even stronger ties, while her deputy prime ministers expressed contradictory remarks about Trump's prospective protectionist measures.
• Kazakhstan: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Trump, expressing confidence in advancing Kazakhstan–United States relations on security, nuclear non-proliferation, and investment. He wished Trump success for the well-being of the American people and global stability.
• Malaysia: Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Trump's "remarkable political comeback", expressing optimism for renewed US-Malaysia collaboration.
• Mexico: President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum congratulated Trump and expressed her desire to "continue cooperating with dialogue and respect to each other's sovereignty".

• NATO: Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte offered congratulations to Trump on 6 November, hoping that his victory would maintain the strength of the defensive alliance with "peace through strength".

• European Union: President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and President of the European Council Charles Michel sent their congratulations to Trump. Von der Leyen said that the EU and the United States are "more than allies" and encouraged for a "strong transatlantic relationship". Metsola emphasized "Europe’s readiness to cooperate in tackling the many global challenges ahead", while Michel called for "continuing our constructive cooperation."
