Jahari Stampley is a Chicago-born pianist, songwriter, and musical arranger. Winner of the 2023 Herbie Hancock International Jazz Institute Piano Competition.[1][2]

Early life

Jahari Stampley was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Stampley grew up in a family of musicians. His mother, D-Erania Stampley is a jazz performer. Stampley started on drums but got curious about the piano at the age of 14.[citation needed] In 2017 he was a member of CYSO Jazz Orchestra's season in 2017.[3] In 2021 Stampley graduated Manhattan School of Music.[4] In 2019 won Bösendorfer prize in international American Jazz Pianists Association Competition (for ages 18–25)[5]

Career

He became widely known among jazz fans in 2023, when he won the Herbie Hancock International Jazz Institute Piano Competition.[6]

In 2023 he released his debut album Still Listening (2023)[7][8]

Stampley now tours with a trio that includes Miguel Russell, a 21-year-old drummer/producer from South Florida, and Chicago-based saxophonist and bassist D-Erania Stampley, who is also Stampley's mother.[9]
