Jonas Scholz (born 24 January 1999) is a German professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Eerste Divisie club Helmond Sport.[2]

Career

[edit]

Scholz was born on 24 January 1999 in Roth, Bavaria, Germany. He played youth football for TV 21 Büchenbach and ASV Neumarkt before joining 1. FC Nürnberg's academy in 2013.[3] In 2018, he moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern's reserve team competing in the Oberliga.

Scholz made his professional debut for Kaiserslautern's first team in the 3. Liga on 20 July 2019, starting against SpVgg Unterhaching before being substituted out in the 78th minute for Gino Fechner, with the match finishing as a 1–1 home draw.[4]

In January 2021, Scholz signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with Regionalliga Südwest club FC 08 Homburg.[5] He grew into a starter for the club.[1] In June 2022, it was announced that he had refused to sign a contract extension with Homburg, instead signing with Regionalliga West club Fortuna Köln.[6][7]

On 3 June 2024, Scholz signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year with Dutch Eerste Divisie club Helmond Sport.[8] He made his debut in the opening fixture of the season, starting in a 1–1 home draw against Jong Utrecht.[9][10]
