KZFX (93.7 FM, "Z-93.7" and "The Super Rock") is a commercial radio station in Ridgecrest, California, United States, broadcasting to the area along US-395 from Ridgecrest to Lone Pine. The station is owned by KZFX, LLC, and broadcasts a classic rock format.

History

[edit]

The station was first signed on in July 2012 as KKYT and aired a country music format branded "The Coyote".[2] This lasted until September 25, 2013, when the station flipped to classic rock. On November 16, 2013, the station changed its call sign to KZFX. The KZFX call sign had been previously used from 1986 to 1994 by Z107 in Houston, Texas.

KZFX was the first radio stations in the High Desert to stream its primary signal on the internet using Winamp in the fall of 2012. In that same year, the station created a sub-Oldies format that was broadcast on the stations SCA Subcarrier and made available via SCA receivers to select businesses in town. In 2013 KZFX began test broadcasts in HD and moved its SCA broadcast Oldies format to HD. The station created another HD channel for a Classic Country format. With the growing demand in online streaming, it was decided in 2014 to discontinue HD broadcast due to the lack of HD radios and poor reception due to technical broadcast limitations of the HD standard itself. Two other formats were added online to bring the total number of stations to five.

KZFX enjoys a daily ATSL of just under 2 hours with an average of 1,660 active sessions per hour. (SoundStack Spring 2023) The station is heard on all major online platforms including the stations website. KZFX programming reaches all cities in the High Desert, Eastern Sierras, Owen's Valley and Antelope Valley. kzfxradio.com the Super Rock is heard online in the High Desert and worldwide.

The station airs live local, reginal and national news, live weather, NASCAR reports, specialty shows such as Spaced Out Radio with Dave Scott, Breakfast with the Beatles and Floydian Slip.[3] The Super Rock (Classic Rock) morning show is hosted by former World Famous KROQ (K-Rock) personality The Poorman, middays with Terry Dean and Josh David afternoons.
