Korangrapady Prakash M Shetty is an Indian entrepreneur and social worker who founded and chairs MRG Group, a hospitality and real estate company based in Bangalore, Karnataka. In 2019, he was awarded the Rajyotsava Award, the second-highest civilian honor by the Government of Karnataka.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Prakash Shetty was born into the Korangrapady clan of Udupi district, Karnataka, to K. Madhava Shetty and Rathna M. Shetty.[1] He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.[citation needed]

Career[edit]

His entrepreneurial journey began with a restaurant called Banjara in Bangalore in 1993.[2] Later, he founded MRG Group, which operates in the hospitality and real estate sectors. The group operates the Goldfinch Boutique Hotels chain across India. His son, Gaurav P. Shetty, serves as the managing director of MRG Group.[3]

Prakash Shetty is the president of Bengaluru Kambala Committee.[4][5]

Humanitarian and social causes[edit]

He contributed to various social causes,[6][7] including the Karnataka Chief Minister's Relief Fund, which was set up to assist those affected by severe flooding in the southern Indian state of Karnataka due to heavy monsoon rains. The floods resulted in 61 fatalities and displaced 7 lakh people. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of the flood victims.[8]

In 2022, he pledged to donate ₹2.50 crore as part of the Prakash Shetty Sahaya Hasta Yojane to 1400 underprivileged families.[9]
