Protected edit request on 22 September 2024

[edit]

Please change X to Y:

X is currently "Your edit includes new external links. To protect the wiki against automated spam, we kindly ask you..."

Y would read something along the lines of "Your edit includes new external links, or in some other way can be abused by spammers. To protect the wiki against automated spam, we kindly ask you..."

Please see Wikipedia:Help_desk#the_CAPTCHA_instructions for context. 84.217.39.2 (talk) 16:00, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Btw, the edit request template says "be created". I am making an edit request, not a creation request. Thank you. 84.217.39.2 (talk) 16:01, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's because the page currently displays a software default text and has never been edited, so it doesn't "exist" for the purpose of MediaWiki software. That said, I am not sure that this edit is correct - the addition is a bit vague (an edit can be spam, it can't be "abused by spammers") and from that conversation the problem is precisely that the external links are hidden in templates?  Not done this is only about when you add a link, not about general things like SEO stuffing. — xaosflux Talk 10:42, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
