I don't understand how the user name $2 is misleading, promotional, offensive or disruptive. Please illuminate this for me. Halfbaker two (talk) 20:56, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The $2 will be automatically replaced with the account which a user is trying to create. mabdul 09:36, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Please import my changes from MediaWiki talk:Titleblacklist-forbidden-new-account/sandbox. My proposed version has the name of the entry on the title blacklist shown to extended confirmed users. The current version does not show the name of the blacklist entry, which is confusing to users. 54nd60x (talk) 08:38, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disabling for now:
  • It also changes the location of links, sending folks to meta — why?
  • Is there a demonstrated issue with extended-confirmed users regularly attempting to create unacceptable account names in good faith?
    • Does this also hide the name for sysops? I suppose that's a no-net-change, but seems to be less useful

@Amorymeltzer: To answer your questions:
  1. All account names blacklisted from creation are on meta. <newaccountonly> is not used and would not make any difference if used on enwiki, because accounts today are created globally. So any blacklist entry for accounts are on the global blacklist, which is why the link points to meta.
  2. I don’t believe there is an issue with extended-confirmed users creating accounts - the extended-confirmed show is there only to let experienced users know the entry that was tripped, because it can cause difficulties when you don’t know the entry tripped. This idea was taken from MediaWiki Talk:Titleblacklist-forbidden-edit and MediaWiki talk:Titleblacklist-forbidden-upload. I don’t know why $1 should only be shown to extended-confirmed users, I think the extended-confirmed show can be removed.
  3. If extended-confirmed show is removed, then no, it will probably not hide the name for sysops. 54nd60x (talk) 13:31, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why do we want to add an output, and then try to hide it with css sometimes - is this harmful to certain people to see in the visible page? — xaosflux Talk 17:34, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
