"Moonlit Floor" is a song by Thai rapper and singer Lisa. It was released through Lloud and RCA Records on October 4, 2024, as the third single from her upcoming solo album. It is a dance-pop track whose chorus interpolates Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me". Lisa debuted the song with a surprise performance before its release at the Global Citizen Festival.

Background

[edit]

After not renewing her contract with her label YG Entertainment for individual activities, Lisa founded her own artist management company called Lloud in February 2024.[1][2] She subsequently signed with RCA Records in April to release solo music in partnership with Lloud.[3] She released "Rockstar" and "New Woman" featuring Rosalía as the first two singles from her upcoming solo album through Lloud and RCA Records in June and August, respectively; "Moonlit Floor" serves as the third single from the album following "New Woman".[4]

Composition

[edit]

"Moonlit Floor" is a dance-pop track about being in love. Lisa sings about how a "green-eyed, French boy got me trippin'" and praises his soft skin, the kisses he gives, and the "tricks" that his tongue does.[5] The song's chorus interpolates American band Sixpence None the Richer's 1998 single "Kiss Me" with the original lyrics of "Kiss me beneath the milky twilight/ Lead me out on the moonlit floor" tweaked to "Kiss me, under the Paris twilight / Kiss me out on the moonlit floor," matching the storyline about a French lover.[6]

Promotion and live performances

[edit]

Lisa began teasing "Moonlit Floor" with TikTok videos posted on September 15 and 20 with snippets of the track. On September 25, she posted a video of herself stepping up to a microphone and singing the words "so kiss me," blowing a smooch to the camera. Fans speculated that Sabrina Carpenter would feature on the track due to the frilly pink crop top and skirt Lisa wears in the video matching Carpenter's aesthetic from her Short n' Sweet Tour. The video's caption, which read "🌙🎤💋", was regarded as a possible reference to the lipstick kiss theme of her Short n' Sweet album era as well.[7] Fans noticed the track's interpolation of Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me", which Carpenter then covered during a concert in Detroit on September 26, further stirring rumors of a possible collaboration.[8] On September 28, Lisa performed as a headliner for the Global Citizen Festival. During the set, she surprised audiences by performing the upcoming single for the first time, which ultimately did not feature Carpenter. Following the live performance, she officially announced the track's release on her social media accounts for October 3, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET or October 4, 2024 at 7 a.m. ICT.[9][10]
