Nwafor Orizu College of Education is located in Anambra state, Nigeria and was founded in 1976. It is formerly known as the College of Education Nsugbe. It was named after the Second Senate President of Nigeria, Abyssinia Akweke Nwafor Orizu.[1]

On July 12, 2018, a bill was sponsored by Dr Tony Nwoye for the upgrade of the college of education to Federal University of Education.[2]

Dr. Ego Uzoezie had served as the provost of the institution from 2014 -2017.[3] The founding provost of the institution was Professor Felix Ndu while the current Provost Dr. Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu as at today 04/07/2024.

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has made a significant leadership change at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. Dr. Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu has been appointed as the new Provost of the institution. This decision was officially announced by the government's spokesperson, Christian Aburime. The appointment of Dr. Anyadiegwu marks a pivotal moment for the college, which has a long-standing history in the field of education.

Dr. Anyadiegwu takes over the reins from Dr. Anwuluorah Ogugua Patricia, who has served as the provost with dedication and distinction. The transition in leadership comes at a time when the college is poised to embark on new initiatives aimed at enhancing its academic and administrative capabilities. Under Dr. Anyadiegwu’s leadership, the institution is expected to further its mission of providing high-quality education and training to its students, while also expanding its influence in the educational sector.

Nwafor Orizu College of Education, founded 48 years ago, has been a beacon of learning and teacher training in Nigeria. The institution has consistently produced graduates who have gone on to contribute significantly to the educational landscape of the country. With the appointment of Dr. Anyadiegwu, there is an air of optimism about the future direction of the college. Her extensive experience and vision are anticipated to bring a fresh perspective to the college’s operations, ensuring that it remains a leader in the field of education.

The appointment of Dr. Anyadiegwu is not just a change in leadership, but a reflection of the commitment of Governor Soludo’s administration to promoting excellence in education. The governor's choice underscores the importance of experienced and visionary leadership in steering educational institutions towards achieving greater heights. As Dr. Anyadiegwu steps into her new role, the entire college community looks forward to a period of growth and renewed commitment to educational excellence[4].[5][6]
