Patrick Yousef Gardner (born 16 June 1999) is an American-Egyptian professional basketball player for the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for Nassau Community College, Saint Michael's College and Marist.
Professional career
[edit]Long Island Nets (2023–2024)
[edit]After going undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft, Gardner signed with the Brooklyn Nets, but was waived two days later.[1] On October 28, he joined the Long Island Nets.[2]
Al Ahly (2024)
[edit]On February 29, 2024, Gardner signed with Al Ahly of the Egyptian Premier League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL), joining the teammafter the G League season.[3] On April 19, 2024, Gardner made his BAL debut and had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in a 99–76 win over City Oilers.[4]
Petro de Luanda (2024)
[edit]In August 2024, Gardner joined the defending BAL champions Petro de Luanda of Angola.[5]
Return to Long Island (2024–present)
[edit]On September 20, 2024, Gardner signed with the Brooklyn Nets,[6] but was waived two days later.[7] On October 27, he joined the Long Island Nets.[8]
National team career
[edit]Gardner played at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup for the Egypt national team. He averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and had his best game in Egypt's win over Mexico when he scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.[9]
Personal life
[edit]Gardner was born in Merrick, New York to an Egyptian mother and American father. Growing up in the United States, Gardner spent his summers in Egypt. He understands Arabic. He grew up as the oldest of 4. His younger sister, Julie, younger brother, Adam, and youngest sister, Ally, were all very close with him and he notes that they were an extremely important part of his childhood and he remains close with them today. He spends a lot of his free time playing basketball with his younger brother, Adam, a current sophomore at MIT who hopes to walk on to their D3 varsity team.
His hobbies outside of basketball include playing pickle ball and tennis, watching movies and shows, playing with his dogs, annoying his younger brother and traveling. Patrick is a huge Harry Potter fan, as seen in his huge Hogwarts themed wardrobe. He is a fan of watching tennis and soccer as well, and watches champions and premier league when he has time. He is also passionate about self improvement and mental health, and he uses a journal to get his thoughts down.
He is a great brother and friend. Those around him say they are lucky to have him in their lives. Adam, his brother, has called him the "funniest person to be around" as well as his closest friend "not to glaze or anything though" he says. It's safe to say Pat is a genuine and humble man looking to make the big league. "And he has what it takes too. He's the hardest workers I know" his brother proudly says.[10]
