January 2, 1788 - Georgia ratifies the United States Constitution and becomes the fourth U.S. state under the new government.

February 5, 1958 - The Tybee Bomb, a 7,600 pound (3,500 kg) Mark 15 hydrogen bomb, is lost in the waters off Savannah, Georgia.

March 20, 2000 - Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin (H. Rap Brown), a former Black Panther, is captured after a gun battle in Atlanta, Georgia that leaves a sheriff's deputy dead.
March 22, 1980 - The Georgia Guidestones are erected in Elbert County, Georgia.

April 4, 1977 - Southern Airways Flight 242, a Douglas DC-9-31, enters a severe thunderstorm which breaks the plane's windshield; the aircraft's engines ingest so much water and hail that they both flame out. The plane glides to a crash landing on a rural highway in Georgia, killing 62 out of 85 people aboard – including rhythm and blues singer Annette Snell – and eight people on the ground; all 22 survivors are injured.
April 5, 1991 - Former Senator John Tower and 22 others are killed in an airplane crash in Brunswick, Georgia, United States.
April 12, 1862 - American Civil War – Andrew's Raid - Union volunteers steal a Confederate locomotive, setting off The Great Locomotive Chase, famously involving the use of The General steam locomotive, which still exists in the 21st century.
April 12, 1965 - Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium opens.
April 13, 1919 - Eugene V. Debs enters prison at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary in Atlanta, Georgia for speaking out against the draft during World War I.

June 1, 1980 - The Cable News Network (CNN) is officially launched.
June 8, 2004 - The G8 Summit takes place over the next 2 days on Sea Island, in Georgia, United States.
June 20, 1908 - The Georgia Tech Alumni Association is chartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
June 29, 1981 - Morris Edwin Robert, armed with a machine gun, holds hostages in the FBI section at the Atlanta, Georgia Federal Building. After three hours the hostages are rescued and Robert is killed in a shootout with Federal Agents.

July 19, 1996 - The 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, begin.
July 27, 1996 - The Centennial Olympic Park bombing at the 1996 Summer Olympics kills 1 and injures 111.

August 17, 1917 - Jewish American Leo Frank is lynched for the alleged murder of a 13-year-old girl in Atlanta, Georgia.
August 26, 1927 - Paul R. Redfern leaves Brunswick, Georgia, flying his Stinson Detroiter "Port of Brunswick" to attempt a solo non-stop flight to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He later crashes in the Venezuela jungle (the crash site is never located).

September 6, 1992 - The Georgia Dome opens.
September 22, 1906 - Race riots in Atlanta, Georgia result in 27 people killed and the black-owned business district severely damaged.
September 18, 1990 - The International Olympic Committee awards the 1996 Summer Olympics to Atlanta, Georgia.

October 14, 1998 - Eric Robert Rudolph is charged with 6 bombings (including the 1996 Olympic bombing) in Atlanta, Georgia.

November 21, 1922 - Rebecca Felton of Georgia takes the oath of office, becoming the first woman United States Senator.

December 29, 1835 - The Treaty of New Echota is signed between the United States Government and members of the Cherokee Nation.
