- May 1, 1917 - The Tepic Territory becomes the state of Nayarit.
- May 2, 1812 - José María Morelos sallies and puts an end to the Siege of Cuautla.
- May 3, 1518 - Juan de Grijalva discovers the island of Cozumel.
- May 5, 1862 - Ignacio Zaragoza defeats the French Expeditionary Force at the Battle of Puebla.
- May 7, 1946 - The Man of Tepexpan, one of the oldest skeletons found in the Valley of Mexico, is unearthed in the town of Tepexpan.
- May 8, 1846 - Battle of Palo Alto during the Mexican–American War
- May 10, 1520 - The Massacre in the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan in Tenochtitlan
- May 13, 1846 - The United States declared war against Mexico.
- May 13, 1942 - A German U-boat sinks oil tanker Potrero del Llanoin Gulf of Mexico waters. This event propelled Mexico to get involved in World War II, on the side of the Allies, on May 28.
- May 14, 1836 - Antonio López de Santa Anna signs the Treaties of Velasco, thus ending the Texas Revolution.
- May 15, 1867 - The city of Querétaro falls to Republican forces led by Gen. Mariano Escobedo, thus ending the Second Mexican Empire. Maximilian I of Mexico is taken prisoner.
- May 19, 1822 - The Constituent Congress of the Mexican Empire proclaims Agustín de Iturbide as Emperor of Mexico.
- May 22, 1909 - Francisco I. Madero founds in Mexico City the Anti-Reelectionist Party (Partido Antirreeleccionista) as a platform to oppose the reelection of President Porfirio Díaz.
- May 25, 1911 - Porfirio Díaz quit office as President of Mexico.
- May 26, 1521 - The Siege of Tenochtitlan begins.
- May 31, 1906 - The miners' Cananea strike begins, demanding better work conditions.
