Swiss Serbs refers to ethnic Serbs or people of Serbian ancestry that are citizens of Switzerland. There are 185 303 people of Serbian origin living in Switzerland, making the 4th largest ethnic group. They are located mostly in the regions of Geneva, Lausanne, Basel and Zurich. Most Serbs moved to Switzerland during the 1960's and 1970's, some also came as refugees during the Yugoslav wars of the 1990's.

In 2007, there was 1.45 million resident foreigners (85.4%, or 19.1% of the total population[1]) of which citizens of Serbia and Montenegro were 196,078.

7,900 Citizens of Serbia Montenegro were naturalized (of total 35,700) in 2004.[2]

Serbo-Croatian is the largest non-official language of Switzerland.

Demographics of Switzerland[edit]

{{main| Resident foreigners and temporary foreign workers make up about 22% of the population.[3] Most of these (60%) are from European Union or EFTA countries.[4] Italians are the largest single group of foreigners with 17.3% of total foreign population. They are followed by Germans (13.2%), immigrants from Serbia and Montenegro (11.5%) and Portugal (11.3%).[4]
