Changes to this page
[edit]This page has taken a considerable amount of time effort and research to compile, and has involved acquiring copies of original document and source material from archives and historical societies from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to name but a few. We have also been in touch with the living descendants of former commanders to attempt to identify more information on them.
Whilst corrections to any spelling, grammar or other refinements are welcome wholesale deletion or changes without contacting the author are not. It is basic common courtesy to query the author before attempting such changes and any attempt to do so without prior discussion will be treated as vandalism and removed. This article is however a work in progress and will be both added to and referenced as time goes on, suggestions are always welcome. This article has been placed on Wikipedia by the unit in question and with the knowledge of the Royal Artillery Archives in Woolwich.--Drakons (talk) 05:30, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- You should read Wikipedia:Ownership of articles can I also suggest you use the Template:Infobox military unit to improve the layout --Jim Sweeney (talk) 06:45, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Having been through your recommended reading I would also suggest you read the following excerpt:
"Even though people can never "own" an article, it is still important to respect the work and ideas of your fellow contributors. Therefore, when removing or rewriting large amounts of content, particularly if this content was written by one editor, it is often more effective to try to work with the editor, instead of against them"
Given that it is my particular unit that the article refers to and i initially published it I do have an interest in ensuring that, whilst it is added to and edited by all as is the Wikipedia process, chunks of information and text are not removed wholesale nor that an organisation attempts to "brand" the page as being affiliated to their one group. In line with Wikipedia etiquette I would suggest that if you plan on deleting vast chunks of the article that are not factually incorrect you enter a discussion. I would certainly not make any such sweeping changes to a page without doing so.--192.101.252.103 (talk) 11:39, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
One other point to note prior to making changes, the additions you have made to the box on the right are incorrect. If you had entered into a discussion I could have informed you of this, ie Woolwich has not been the HQ of the Gunners, let alone 16th Regiment since 2007. It ceased to be the home of the Royal Artillery and was handed over to the infantry. The Royal Artillery HQ is now Larkhill and 16th Regiment itself is based at North Luffenham. I suggest you read the article.--192.101.252.103 (talk) 11:48, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Woolwich as the HQ was taken from the article. AT the moment this article is to put it bluntly a mess its unencyclopaedic and full of pov statements and comments that have little or nothing to do wit the battery. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 12:30, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- If you had read the full article then you would have noted the change of location mentioned at the end. If you could please explain the terms "Pov" it would be appreciated. Given that you obviously have no interest in Wikipedia etiquette or in fact any of the contents of the page you directed me to it seems that you have a rather "do what I say not what I do" attitude. You are currently engaged in what can only be described as wholesale vandalism of this page. You have changed the text removing factual data and putting in its place what I can only assume is guesswork or assumptions. You have changed much of the phraseology etc. in such a way that I can only assume that you are an American with some prejudiced views regarding the American War of Independence. I am currently in Afghanistan and as such have limited time on the internet but when you have finished with your slash and burn techniques I will have a look and see what I can recover.--Drakons (talk) 13:23, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Wikipedia refers to the American War of Independence as the American Revolutionary War and it has its own task force Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/American Revolutionary War task force. The wholesale vandalism you refer to is an attempt to make a worthwhile article from what is here. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 15:02, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Military history WikiProject.
[edit]can you stop deleting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history banner from this talk page. The article is within the scope of the project. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 14:56, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Suggestions
[edit]This article needs details of the present day unit. A breakdown of the battery into troops equipment used etc. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 15:42, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Caption
[edit]"Corporal Simon Orchard with the Javelin air defence system". This is the caption for the photograph, but I thought that two-stripers in the RA were 'Bombardiers'. They were when I was serving, also the 'Description' part of the picture has the 'B' word.
Does anyone know why the caption is so worded?
A better caption might be: "Bombardier (Corporal) Simon Orchard with the Javelin air defence system" RASAM (talk) 14:50, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- Changed it to "Bombardier" as instructed by Simon Orchard himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.219.198.36 (talk) 14:35, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thats good, but what about readers who don't know what a bombardier is and even if it is linked, can't be bothered to click on it and find out? Was the bombardier/corporal idea suggested to Simon Orchard? RASAM (talk) 18:44, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
