Why does this race need a listing of podiums?

[edit]

It adds nothing to the article to list 2nd and 3rd places, especially as there are already full race rseults and reports linked for several years (and hopefully every year in the future). Listing a podium goes against the established consensus on nearly every motorsports article which lists only the winner. The359 (talk) 21:29, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not 6 hours

[edit]

Hallo, the 6 Hours of Nürburgring were a race for touring cars but not the 1000-km-Rennen. It is correct that the last one since 2004 were limited to 6 hours but the name was not changed. -- Spurzem (talk) 10:01, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The name was changed, same as the 1000km of Silverstone and Spa which are now titled 6 Hours. They have all been renamed. Moving article back. The359 (Talk) 17:29, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@The359: No, the name was not changed. Look in the book ADAC 1000 km Rennen, ISBN 978-3-89880-903-0. There you can see photographs of the program booklets 2006 and 2007 inscribed "1000 km Rennen … Nürburgring". The "6 Hours of Nürburgring" were other races from 1963 to the 1980th and since 2015. But if you mean you should sell a mistake than should do so. Best regards -- Spurzem (talk) 22:28, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Spurzem: But the 2006 and 2007 races were titled the 1000 km of Nurburgring. That is why they are listed under the heading of "1000 km distance, 5.1 km circuit". They were simply stopped before 1000 km because they hit their maximum time limit of six hours. When the WEC was established in 2012, their events were all changed from 1000 km to 6 hours. As I said, this change also applies to Silverstone, Spa, Fuji, etc. This is a continuation of the sports car race. A touring car race under the same title is not part of this continuation. Requested move 10 August 2023

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. With participants divided over whether to split the article or not, and low participation overall, I don't see consensus for any solution as having formed here. 6 Hours of NürburgringNürburgring 1000 km – the "current" races have "3 Hours of Nürburgring" as the title, which is more a 500km race... Thus this article should return to the historic name, and the 3 hour / circa-500km races should be split off, into a successor race of half the length of the post-pandemic era, the 3 Hours of Nürburgring -- 67.70.25.80 (talk) 04:51, 10 August 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 13:56, 17 August 2023 (UTC)— Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 21:54, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: Seems more appropriate to figure out if there's going to be a split first, before settling on what the page title ought to be. 2406:3003:2077:1E60:A3EF:7617:2021:2DE7 (talk)
  • Oppose splitting. This article has value in tracing the history and lineage of an annual race event, being the other marquee event at this circuit besides the 24 Hours. It's not even the first time that the format (and exact naming) of the event has changed, and that's absolutely fine, since the race time/distance is clearly indicated in the table of winners. It's actually helpful to be able to easily track how the race format and circuit layout in use has evolved over time. Moving content about 1989—1991 + 2021—present to a separate article leads to undesirable fragmentation of the timeline and poorer information accessibility.
Furthermore, there have thus far been just two editions run under a 3 hr timed format; we can't be certain there won't be a return to a 6 hr or 1000 km format a few years from now. Imagine being back in 1990 and making the case for 480km races to be spun off into a separate page. It is too soon to know for sure how permanent the 3 hr format is, so I would caution against rushing to split off what would turn out to be a smaller (stub?) article that would not only contain significantly less prose, but is likely to be highly redundant with the existing text here.
To reflect the current format, article could be → 3 Hours of Nürburgring with others as incoming redirects, and bolded mentions of 6 hour and 1000km being the most predominant historical formats.
