Image Copyright Problem[edit]

Three of the images used in this article [1], [2] and [3] are tagged as User-created GFDL, that is created by the uploader and released for free use.

However, all three images are exactly the same as the ones on the company website here]. This strongly suggests the images are wrongly tagged and a breach of copyright. I would welcome any other comments, especially from the image uploader User:Bertatmindcomet. If no comments or contrary views are received I will correctly retag them.

We will then have a second issue - whether their continued inclusion in the article can be justifed as fair use. I would argue no, as they are purely decorative and add nothing to our understanding of APM Terminals' operation or sites. Other views on this point would also be welcome. Several suggested updates coming[edit]

Hi Wiki editor, I am part of Maersk's global communications team, we realize that no one has really owned the maintenance of our pages and now there is quite a bit out of date. I will upload a number of suggestions here, if you want to contact me and discuss or clarify anything, my mail is philip.lewin and then Maersk (unfortunately our corporate firewall prohibits me from adding comments from a Maersk device or our office network, so I am entering these from my personal computer at home). There is quite a bit on our website that is obsolete or no longer relevant, outdated or changed, and a fair amount of new stuff too. Happy to chat with you if it helps, and thank you for considering our suggestions. Philip Lewin (talk) 12:52, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest to replace current very outdated overview with the following:[edit]

Overview

In 2023, APM Terminals generated USD 3.8 billion in revenue. The company’s 22,000 employees serviced more than 27,000 vessel calls and moved 21.7 million containers at both its hub and gateway terminals. As of April 2024, it operated 60 ports and terminals, located in 30 countries.

Terminals under development

In November 2021, APM Terminals (51%) and Enna Logic (49%) signed a concession agreement to design, construct and operate a state-of-the-art container terminal, Rijeka Gateway, on Croatia's North Adriatic coast. The Rijeka Gateway will developed in two phases, with phase one due for completion in 2025 (annual capacity 650,000 TEU and 1,055,000 TEU following phase two). Once completed, the terminal will have a 680m long berth and be able to serve vessels up to 24,000 TEU. 95% of the container handling equipment will be electric and emission free.

In 2023, APM Terminals entered into a strategic partnership with Vietnamese HATECO group to develop two new deep-water berths at Lach Huyen port in Haiphong City located in the north of Vietnam. Operations will commence in 2025.

Also in 2023, the company won a concession for building and operating a container terminal in the Port of Suape, Brazil. Once operational in 2026, APM Terminals Suape will be Brazil's first fully electric container terminal. A EUR 300 million investment will result in a state-of-the-art terminal that will increase capacity at the port by 55%.

Terminal Expansions

The following terminals recently completed capacity expansions or are currently under development to increase capacity and efficiency:

APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas, Mexico: Phase II expansion started in 2023. This will increase capacity by one million TEUs. APM Terminals Tangier MedPort, Morocco: One million TEU expansion delivered in 2023, together with electric equipment, shore power and auto mooring. Port of Salalah, Oman: One million TEU expansion underway, with completion expected in 2025 APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, Rotterdam, the Netherlands: Doubling of annual capacity currently underway with completion expected in 2027 Poti Sea Port, Georgia: Expansion will commenc in 2024. The first stage includes a breakwater of 1,700m and a 400m multipurpose quay with 13.5 m depth able to handle dry bulk cargo and an incremental 150,000 TEUs. The second stage will double the annual container capacity at Poti Sea Port to over 1 million TEU.

Terminal Divestments

In 2022, APM Terminals divested its 30% share in the EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven, Germany, and Sogester container terminals in Luanda and Namibe, Angola. In 2023/2024, APM Terminals divested its operations in Castellón, Spain; Nouakchott and Nouadhibou, Mauritania; Cotonou, Benin; and Conakry, Guinea. The concession agreement for APM Terminals Itajai, Brazil was not renewed in 2023.

Decarbonisation

In 2022, APM Terminals made an industry-leading commitment to be fully net zero by 2040, and to reduce its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 65% by 2030 compared to 2022. Scope 1 are emissions generated while carrying out business activities, whereas scope 2 covers indirect emissions from purchased energy.

Between 2022 and 2023, APM Terminals reduced its absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions by 13%. Additionally, 40% of electricity demand (as of 2023) was procured from renewable resources.

In 2023, APM Terminals and DP World published a joint white paper emphasising the importance of electrified container handling equipment to speed up the decarbonization of the industry. The white paper showed that battery electric container handling equipment has the potential to be an affordable and accessible solution this decade, and competitive with incumbent diesel technologies. The white paper offers a roadmap for container terminal electrification, with key levers and actions for all players across the value chain.

In 2023, to speed up the adoption and understanding of battery electric container handling equipment, APM Terminals commenced a US$60 million electrification pilot programme at the Aqaba Container Terminal, APM Terminals Barcelona, APM Terminals Mobile, Pier 400 Los Angeles and Suez Canal Container Terminal.

APM Terminals also established the Zero Emission Port Alliance during COP28 – an industry-wide strategic coalition with the goal of accelerating container handling equipment electrification. Philip Lewin (talk) 12:56, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
