Spyware in Browser add-ons

[edit]

In the wikipedia article on spyware, browser add-ons are mentioned to contain spyware. Could someone please elaborate on this aspect of add-ons in this definition?

Wikipedia look-up add-on?

[edit]

Does anyone know if this exists or if plans are in developement, similar to a Google Toolbar? I think this would be a great feature, saves on having to type in the site all the time, just like the search bar or something. Tyciol 00:17, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge this article

[edit]

In its current state this article is a stub with not many items to be linked to. Would it be better to considering merging it into the plugin or the Extension (computing) pages? Agne 16:23, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An extension to a house

[edit]

An extension to a house is called an "add-on". Accordingly, I added "An extension to a house" but that was reverted with the explanation "Please see WP:PTM". I looked at WP:PTM but I don't see how that's relevant. So I've added back my addition. If anybody thinks it's a problem, please explain. Thanks. Mksword (talk) 09:40, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Mksword: Alright. I might have mistaken about WP:PTM. Let's take it from the top.
In accordance to Wikipedia:Editing policy § Talking and editing, I am contesting your contribution with a revert. My concern is that I don't believe your statement is accurate. I don't believe anyone calls an extension to a house an add-on.
Are we clear so far?

@Mksword: It looks like the situation has got a little complicated: A well-known vandal and WikiHound has started disrupting our dispute resolution process.
I would like to let you know that your right to establish your point is reserved. Just because I revert a vandal doesn't mean that I would edit war with you too.
As a precaution, I looked up Oxford English Dictionary, Collins Dictionary and Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary as well.

Please see this definition before reverting again. "Add-on: 1.2 A unit of construction added to an existing construction." 2601:5C2:200:E208:D910:548F:3A23:6757 (talk) 12:26, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WOW. JUST WOW. Miracle has happened: The disreputable vandal and WikiHound, after a couple of years of trying to harass me with no success, finally decided to discuss rationally like an ordinary Wikipedian. And provided a source too! Maybe if he had done so from day 1, his user account would have never been blocked.
An explanation: When I said I looked up Oxford English Dictionary, I looked up this: https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/add-on. As you can see, it does not have add-on in that sense in it.
But now that verifiable evidence has come to light, I am reinstating Mksword's edit.
