[edit]Should we add a segment on the use of "AID" in humor, i.e. the "singular" form of AIDS? Alx xlA 04:47, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Move as proposed. The main question here is where this dab page should be located, and we have strong consensus that "Aid" should be uncapitalized. Feel free to start a new RM at Aid if it is felt that article is mistitled. Cúchullain t/c 14:25, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
AID → Aid (disambiguation) – (Move over redirect). A clearer title for this disambiguation page. The primary topic here ought to be Aid. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 10:01, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- Support - It is a disambiguation for a word, not an acronym.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 13:57, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- Support per WP:DABNAME (word preferred over acronym). Steel1943 (talk) 20:19, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- Comment – Not a bad idea, but why not just admit there's no PRIMARYTOPIC here, and move it to Aid, and move Aid to something like International aid? Dicklyon (talk) 05:05, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- There doesn't seem to be anything particularly notable called "aid" that isn't just an acronym, besides international aid. So, I'd say that international aid is the primary topic.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 07:57, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Dicklyon and Zxcvbnm: OK, let's do this first, and if it's agreed I'll submit another RM to move Aid to International aid (which might be contentious) and the new Aid (disambiguation) to Aid. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:34, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

- Oppose – After consideration of my comment above and the proposal to go ahead with this while leaving the primarytopic topic for Aid, I have to object. That would be a step backwards, or sideways at least. I recommend a new multi-RM proposal to move Aid to International aid and AID to Aid. Dicklyon (talk) 16:00, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed that a fuller discussion is needed. There are also missing entries, e.g. Welfare, and fundraising for relief efforts (numerous benefit concerts and other fundraisers have "aid" in their names). I also note that the Relief (disambiguation) page does not mention that stuff, so it also needs work. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 18:56, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- Except that this proposal is relatively simple and relatively uncontentious, whereas a multiple proposal is relatively complex and relatively contentious (I sense: Is there a primary topic? Is international aid the primary topic? Is all aid international? etc etc). If I may suggest: view this as a stepping-stone forwards not a step sideways. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 05:14, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Support—There is no mention of capped "AID" in the list of articles (except for the "See also" section, which says it all); so it's strange that the few titular titles don't even mention "AID" in parentheses. A capped title is very strange for readers looking for the common term "aid". It is not so strange if you're looking for "Association for India's Development". As so often, "primary topic"—if it were applicable—would be a chain around our legs that would solve nothing. Tony (talk) 01:08, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Move Aid to International aid and AID to Aid. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:30, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Support per nom. INternational aid is a clear primary topic of encyclopedic topics concerning this, so there's no question of moving this to Aid. The nomination on the title of this page is sensible though, so move to Aid (disambiguation). — Amakuru (talk) 23:19, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- Move Aid to International aid and AID to Aid. I fail to see the "clear primary topic" status of international aid among other types of aid (financial, medical – first aid not even mentioned on the dab). Readers who search for a term of so broad meaning should be presented with a dab page (barring a possibility of a WP:DABCONCEPT which isn't here). No such user (talk) 11:48, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

– As proposed in the discussion above, topic of international aid, currently located at Aid, does not seem to be the primary topic for "aid". The term "aid" is highly ambiguous, and within most important meanings it includes welfare, fundraising and first aid, so it should be a disambiguation page. No such user (talk) 07:45, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose When someone types "aid" into the search bar, there is no other clear primary topic beyond international aid. These workers are commonly referred to as "aid workers" while people who administer first aid are paramedics. People who are looking for first aid will likely type that into the search bar, as it's an extremely common term.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 10:51, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
- But what makes international aid stand out between assistance, help, medical aid, financial aid, personal assistant, artificial aid, as instances of "aid", to deserve an unqualified title? WP:NOTWHATCOMESTOMIND notwithstanding, without a context, "international aid" is hardly the first thing to come to anyone's mind about the term "aid"; heck, it isn't even mentioned as a specific meaning in wikt:aid and other online dictionaries I checked. IMO it badly fails Recognizability and Precision tests of WP:CRITERIA. No such user (talk) 12:00, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
- It's the only thing I know of that is referred to just as "aid" without a word appended to it (e.g. "deliver aid to X country" or "send aid workers to X country"), people use the full term "financial aid" or "first aid" to refer to those things. "Aid" is commonly used as shorthand for "international aid" and not for those other things.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 12:40, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
- Support - There are so many reasons someone could search for aid/AID and none of them (*especially* 'international aid') can be said to be primary. "aid" as a root word is very generic, and there are several topics which use the abbreviation AID. Readers should land on a disambig page first. -- Netoholic @ 13:16, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
- Support per Netoholic. "Aid" is a very generic term and I don't think international aid is a clear primary topic. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 20:26, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose per Zxcvbnm. When someone talks of "Aid" with no qualifier, amongst encyclopedic topics (i.e. not considering dictionary usages of the word, which are irrelevant per WP:NOTDICT), it is this that they are talking of. None of the other topics on the dab page are just called "Aid" so they are not candidates to be located at plain Aid, apart from obscure topics such as Aid (rapper) and Aid (Würm). It is also the root of "aid worker", as well as being a pun in USAID. None of the above opposes state why this move would be beneficial for readers. — Amakuru (talk) 11:25, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
