Name

[edit]

There seems to exist some confusion about Amy Carmichael's middle name. Some sources quote have it as Wilson. Can anyone clear up this confusion please.

I believe that she took Wilson as a "pen name" after her adoptive father figure Robert Wilson. Need to verify.Brian0324 22:38, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be useful if someone from the Donhavur Fellowship could supply details for the continuing work of Amy Carmichael

it is not useful for school, but give Wikipedia a chance.

Amy Carmichael's middle name is Beatrice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:40B:8502:DB20:2CFA:994B:D3A:174C (talk) 00:08, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

vandalism

[edit]

Anyone have any idea why this article is such a target for vicious vandohylism? It doesn't have many links. I have tried to change the POV so that it is not so overtly Christian in perspective, but one can only do so much. It could really use a serious attempt to organize the flow and talk about her significance to the wider influence on missions.Brian0324 22:36, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs more references, especially relating the points about "Devadasi" and Amy Carmichael's "saving girls from prostitution." Also, her "staining her skin with coffee" is offensive to non-caucasians. What was her reason for doing that anyway? Many light skinned/Caucasian people lived and worked in India for decades and centuries without the need to "stain their skin" PovertyEradication (talk) 19:46, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is not relevant that something is offensive to non-Caucasians. The question is whether the article is an accurate reflection of the sources cited.
The comments by PovertyEradication seem to be a justification for article vandalism. I note that the account no longer exists. Martin Turner (talk) 14:21, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality/Impartiality

[edit]

This article strongly lacks and independent references that can attest to the conditions of the girls "saved" by Amy Carmichael. It is also "pro" Christianity and does not present and accurate picture of Tamil Nadu and Hindus. PovertyEradication (talk) 19:50, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This article now seems to be well-referenced from a number of sources. I propose removing the issues template. Please note that neutrality is not the same as satisfying all points of view, but rather of accurately representing the consensus of external materials. I also note that the account making this claim has been removed, and gives the appearance (based on comments above) of being supportive of vandalism. Martin Turner (talk) 14:22, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This thread now appears to be dormant and the account making this allegation is no longer a valid account. Martin Turner (talk) 14:23, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
