Constant attempts to out of process remove categories

Anne Hampton Brwester clearly, without question fits in Category:American women novelists. No one has argued that she is not a woman, a novelits, or an American. As long as that category exists she should be in it. Beyond that, if that category is memgered, it will most likely be upmerged to its parent, Category:American women writers. Brewster is no where under that cat at present, and clearly should be, so to remove her from Category:American women novelists is to remove her from Category:American women writers which is clearly not at all justified.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:14, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with JPL - the guidance here is clear - you cannot remove someone from a category under discussion. Re added. Stop warring please. If the cat is deleted, the problem will take care of itself. Hehe. But seriously, what is it you are opposed to - the women novelists cat, or the fact that she's not in the american novelists cat (rather, she's in a non-gendered by-century sub-cat). Do both bug you equally, or is one worse than the other? What do you think is the ideal categorization? OK, I took your insane quiz, and it was a very good thought exercise. For this article, however, my motivations for my edits were much simpler. I recently came across a story she wrote in an old copy of The Atlantic Weekly, researched her, and wrote the article. Few people have ever cared to write about her since her death, but there was enough to support an article. Some nearly lost knowledge is brought back to ready modern grasp. JPL and I added a number of relevant/useful cats I think, and I don't think she's ghettoized by any of them. Categorizing people as "women novelists" is not "besmirching" them. Since I have also been attacked as sexist for opposing women categories, and people have strongly argued that unless such categories exist we are marginalizing women, the whole thing is beyond locical. Anyway we have Category:Italian women novelists, Category:American men novelists but not Category:Italian men novelits. The whole notion that such categories "besmirching" people is not supported by the fact that many people feel they need to exist, to avoid ignoring the many contributions to literature done by women.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:37, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
