Untitled

[edit]

A tiny, geeky comment - the 'picture of Pink Floyd on the Astoria in the 1980s' shows in the middle, what is almost certainly a Macintosh IIci or maybe a Quadra 700. That would date it to October 1989 at the earliest!

Amount of cabling used in the studio

[edit]

Perhaps someone could put me right here, but 23 km of cabling seems like an extraordinary amount. Can someone confirm it, or that this is typical for recording studios?

Plus, if it was Van Den Hul, the cost must have been substantial judging by the cost of their hi fi interconnects...

Equipment: ATC SCM150ASL Mods

[edit]

The ATC SCM150ASL is an asymmetrical design, with a "left" version and a "right" version. If the "standard ATC SCM150ASL active speaker used as the centre channel" is indeed standard, is it a left or right one? Or is it more likely that it's the center one that's been modified?

This article is largely correct as of 2007 - it should not be disputed.

According to an interview with Phil Taylor (Gilmour's Guitar Tech and Manager of the Astoria) that appeared in Tape Op magazine "Phil Taylor and The Astoria Driving Audio Standards on the River Thames" by Jeff Touzeau ©2005 TapeOp.com, The Astoria Studio is just as decscribed.

Also an article in October 2007 Resolution Magazine where Andy Jackson is interviewed indicates that Astoria is still in use. See this link http://www.recordproduction.com/andy-jackson-astoria-studios.htm

I will add a litte bit more info based on what was said in these two articles.

Italicisation?

[edit]

I'm wondering what folks' thoughts are on the italicisation, or lack thereof, of the word "Astoria" in this article. The title of the page and the image caption have "Astoria" unitalicised, the opening boldface word of the lede has "Astoria" italicised, etc. I can understand why this would be a bit of a pickle, seeing as the Astoria is both a boat and a recording studio (see WP:SHIPNAME). I think we should achieve some consistency in italicising "Astoria" throughout the article. –Matthew - (talk) 22:07, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
