the intro is excellent, if you have a postgraduate engineering degree in photonics As Einstein once remarked, any scientist who understood his own material, could explain it to a milk maid (and, his wife said, that is a slur on milk maids)

A good intro would be something like, an apd is a material where light striking a surface causes a large electrical signal, similar in concept to a pmt, but the materials and electrical circuits are different. I rearranged a lot of stuff and shortened the introduction. Even though, further edits would be great. Especially in the section function of operation. --W.pseudon (talk) 15:44, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It always amazes me how scientific articles can go decades on Wikipedia with unreadable leads ;-) even as someone working in a related field and coming back for a reminder I usually just end up more confused, until I can extract the actually important parts from the subtext in between the lines.

Previous edit definitely moved things in the right direction, I tried to add an even simpler and clearer description as to what an APD actually is supposed to do, and roughly speaking how it does it.

I don't know anything about the actual engineering / structure of APDs so that could use some future expansion. Euan Richard (talk) 03:47, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
