Request to update article

[edit]

Hi, as this article is currently a stub, I have drafted a new version that expands greatly on the information presently in the article, and that I would like to suggest as a replacement. The new version is in my userspace here for the moment while I seek reviews from any interested editors. The reason I am not posting the new version immediately is that I have a working relationship with Kitson and Partners, the developers for Babcock Ranch, and am aware that I have a WP:CONFLICT with the subject of this article. I have endeavoured to follow all the Wikipedia policies very carefully, in particular WP:VERIFY, WP:RS and WP:NPOV but would appreciate another editor taking a look at the article and offering any feedback. I will also post a message requesting reviews of my draft on the Wikiproject Florida discussion page. Please let me know if you have any thoughts by leaving a message here or on my talk page. If there are no objections within a few days then I may go ahead and post up my draft. Thanks, Brushfoot (talk) 22:26, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The sandbox version in your userspace looks good, very good. I would not use the archaic word "bestriding". I would remove all but the first external link, the 'official' one. Binksternet (talk) 01:01, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just replaced the old article with your new version which was much better. Binksternet (talk) 14:46, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for reading through the draft, I appreciate your helpful comments and your assistance in moving the new version from my userspace. As you've seen I followed all your suggestions (replacing 'bestriding' and removing the two external links). Any further comments or suggestions on the article (from yourself or other editors) would be more than welcome. Thanks, Brushfoot (talk) 15:18, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The old version had latitude and longitude coordinates which were difficult for me to confirm as accurate. If you could check the location, or provide a correct location, that would be good. A related question is, "how big is Babcock Ranch?" as addressed by this article. Does it include the only the developed areas such as buildings and solar collection, or does it include the whole wilderness? The answer will affect how big an area is shown in geo coordinates link. Binksternet (talk) 21:34, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did confirm the precise coordinates using USGS and GeoLocator. The specific size of the ranch and the area to be developed is a trickier question. If I can figure out the precise answer, I will find a way to include that. Thanks, Brushfoot (talk) 16:11, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should not this article indicate at the start that there is no such built city as Babcock Ranch?

[edit]

Looking at Google maps and googling on Babcock Ranch, it appears that there are a multitude of claims using the future tense "will be", but no actual city built by this name. So isn't it all speculation? Who can say what WILL BE in the future? So should not this article make it clear at the start that this all is pie in the sky speculation, plans which may or may not ever be fulfilled? PeacePeace, it's a development of regional impact (DRI) where it's a master planned community through the state and its local justification (Charlotte County) where they have to show a Master Plan for the entire area. Every annual or biennual monitoring shows what has been done, what improvements need to be made, etc. I imagine the info in here is stating what is planned. If it needs to be changed, it will. Best examples for nearby off the top of my head is Gateway, Coconut Point mall, Lakewood Ranch. I did some digging and it looks like it has been a DRI since 2006 and it looks like it was affected by the recession, changed owners, and now it's finally building after 11 years. Looks like I have some info to add and items to mold here. – The Grid (talk) 21:38, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
