GA Review
[edit]Hi! I am going to be reviewing this article for GA, and should have the full review up within a few hours. Dana boomer (talk) 17:58, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- It is reasonably well written.
- a (prose): b (MoS):
The "References" section should come after the "Notes" section.DoneThere should be no spaces between sequential refs. So, it should be [8][9], not [8] [9].Done- There should be no new information in the lead; it should instead be a summary of all of the other sections in the article. New information and references should be moved to the body of the article in the appropriate section.
- Not sure where to place the information. I'll have to ask someone.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 03:30, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps try the end of the "Early life and career" section? This is where I think it would fit best. However, if other people have other ideas, that's fine too!
- Prose issues:
"Early life and career" section, "save for an instance in his Reminiscences, he seldom mentioned them." Since you do not introduce this book until much later in the article, perhaps say "in his autobiography".
- Wasn't really an autobiography, more like him remembering the things he observed. Not sure how to fix this.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 03:30, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm...I see. I suppose it's allright as is; however, if at some point you have an epiphany for another way of wording it, please change :)
"Civil War service", third paragraph, "exiting his right should, barely missing his spine". Is this supposed to be "shoulder"?DoneSame section, fourth paragraph, is there a reason for his nickname of "The Little Whalebone"? If so, please explain.
- I saw no reason he was called this, so I removed.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 03:30, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
"Postbellum" section, second paragraph, "He helped to found Louisville's Filson Club Historical Society 1884,". Should this be "in 1884"?DoneSame section, same paragraph. For the three books that he wrote, please give publication years for all of the books, and put them in chronological order.DoneSame section, third paragraph, "After 1900, Duke began slowing down." This is un-encyclopedic. Perhaps replace by "After 1900, Duke began to withdraw from his public career" or something of the sort.DoneSame section, same paragraph, "Afterward, lived with his daughter Julia". Should this be "he lived"?Done
- a (prose): b (MoS):
- It is factually accurate and verifiable.
- a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Two of the books in the "References" section are not used in in-line referencing. Is there a reason they're needed in the refs section?
All of the references need to have publisher information and ISBN numbers if available.Done, save one did not have a ISBN, just a ASIN--King Bedford I Seek his grace 05:00, 20 August 2008 (UTC)The last sentence of the "Civil War service" section needs a reference.Done

I am putting this article on hold for seven days in order to allow time for the issues above to be addressed. Overall, this is a well-written and well-referenced article that needs just a few minor tweaks before becoming GA. If you have questions, you can ask them here on the review page or on my talk page. Dana boomer (talk) 18:36, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. Currently, I have a job that will take most of my time thru Sunday, so I would be hard press to do anything until Monday.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 02:57, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your hard work so far. There's just the one concern left, which I've added a response to above. If you need more time to work on this article, that's fine and I will extend the hold for another week. Dana boomer (talk) 12:58, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Everything looks good, so I'm passing for GA. Dana boomer (talk) 14:33, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
