Sources and Footnotes

[edit]

I count seven sources and 126 footnotes, and most of these are from only two authors. That seems odd in the least, especially when so many of the footnotes are a series of pages from the same book. These footnotes could (and should) easily be combined into twenty citations. or less.Chagallophile (talk) 19:43, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Who is Ou8atory, how do you pronounce his name, and what system of transcription is being used to spell it with an "8"?

[edit]

As far as I can tell, all mentions of the name "Ou8atory", or, as it's misspelled in another article, "Ou8tatory", trace back to D. Peter MacLeod's book, "The Canadian Iroquois and the Seven Years' War" by D. Peter MacLeod, where he spells it "Ou8atory". Unless this chief is recorded elsewhere under a different spelling, MacLeod's book is the only historical work where Ou8atory is mentioned. I've never seen the number "8" used to transcribe a sound into English text, and I'm wondering why MacLeod did so, what system was used to spell it like that. I've never seen any numbers in any other American Indian names. Was that how it was spelled in whatever primary sources MacLeod used? It sounds more like an internet handle than something a French missionary or whoever would come up with when trying to write Indian names phonetically. At this point, I'm almost willing to send D. Peter MacLeod an email, if I can find his address. Terminimal (talk) 23:23, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction Problems

[edit]

The second section of the introduction is far too long to really be an introduction and could, In my opinion, be trimmed down significantly. --TheRevolutionaryProcrastinator (talk) 15:51, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
