Material from bio

[edit]

Much of this article is adapted with only slight line edits from DeWeese's self-serving bio on his Democratic Caucus web page. I tried to reincorporate some critical material that had been deleted and add some information on one of DeWeese's most well known personal characteristics -- his use of the English language -- but there's much more that needs to be done to make this read like an encyclopedia article rather than PR copy.

Why delete factual information?

[edit]

I think there genuinely needs to be some discussion before sections are removed by 209.158.227.190 again. If you don't like the piece or don't think its factual, there needs to be some discussion before you get rid of it.Montco 17:47, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The deleted material seems ok to keep in to me...presented fairly according to npov as far as I can tell. bcatt

I believe the pay raise section is slanted as exhibited by the use of "ill-fated." Also, this section does not mention that the pay raise was repealed by the state legislature and DeWeese voted to do so. DeWeese also stated in the press that nobody was removed from any committee. There was a reshuffling of the positions. Finally, I don't see how the sentence about DeWeese controlling a $19 million account for staff and expenses has anything to do with the pay raise. -- I am the person who was removing the questionable material.

  • First, if you want to add information about DeWeese voting for the repeal, then have at it and add the information. No objection. Second, The pay raise was indeed 'ill fated' as it was repealed. If repeal isn't an 'ill fate' for that bill then I don't know what is. But if you really really don;t like it, take out the phrase. Third, the Democrats removed from their chairmanships would beg to differ with Rep. DeWeese's version. However, if you would like to add his version to the article for balance, please do so. Finally, the account for staff expenses is relevant as Rep. Vitali claims that his expense reimbursement from that $19 million fund were denied due to the pay raise. Again if there is another version to the story, you are free to add it.
  • The bottomline, Harrisburg, is that if you have genuine qualms about an article then you can come here and discuss it. If you want to add verifiable information to the article, no one here will take issue with it. There are indeed two sides to every story, but outright deletion of something you don't care for is vandalism. Montco 03:56, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Per your latest suggestions, I made some changes. I hope they are acceptable. I deleted the second reference to Danko, since he already was mentioned in the pay raise section. 209.158.227.190 19:28, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well its better than outright deletion. Look, I realize a lot of folks like Bob Jubelirer, Bill DeWeese and John Perzel would like this pay raise thing to go away. And after November 2006, I am sure it will be forgotten. For all I know it may be forgotten by May 2006. But its the issue of the day so it deserves to be discussed. Just be thankful that your boy didn't get photographed in front of the pink pigs.
  • I did make a few changes but I think they are in line with the spirit of your edits. I am just not in the mood for an edit war since that would be in violation of what we try to do here at Wikipedia. Montco 23:58, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
