Fair use rationale for Image:Blueberry Giraud.gif
[edit]Image:Blueberry Giraud.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:26, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

English translation?
[edit]Nothing in English?The Tramp 14:07, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- For a French comic, the series has been rather extensively translated. I think Moebius/Gir(aud) still has a huge international cult status. See http://koti.mbnet.fi/~z14/euro-comics/blueberry.html but note that many of these books probably could be quite hard to find or expensive. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 00:43, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi! I'm pretty much new in editing wiki pages. Although last year I made an excel table of the English translations of Blueberry. I made it primarily for own use, as a guideline to collect whatever I can from them, but I would be happy to share it. I have no idea how to make a table here, maybe a normal list would be the best... I'm sure somehow I'll manage to share it... :) Zoli79 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoli79 (talk • contribs) 00:03, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- If you're interested, you could look at other articles with tables, and learn/copy the table format to here, with new information. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 15:17, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Wakuran! Wikipedia has a bunch of useful templates, those were helpful. I've made a major edit in Blueberry comics. If it's OK, than hopefully I'll put up the translations of the Young Blueberry saga and a list of other printings of the same titles listed in today's batch. Zoli79 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoli79 (talk • contribs) 20:41, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Nice done, pardner! Just take note if some albums have been translated in different formats and/or compilations. P.S. Sign your posts with four tildes. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 01:42, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Btw, what do all the Roman numerals stand for in the template? You should clarify their meaning, or remove them. They're merely cluttering and confusing, as now. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 01:45, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry about the Roman numbers. I used a conventional use for marking months, but I guess it's not same everywhere. I'll correct them today. I admit I paid more attention on the table itself, than researching which ISO Wiki prefers.
Second prints: I'll put up a list of those as soon as I get some time to do it. I couldn't fit them in this table, since there are some albums with at least 3 English versions.
The ones marked with n/a are ones that are not translated. Or at least I have no knowledge about them. Zoli79 (talk) 08:00, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I just thought it wasn't an obvious method. If you'd like to mark the months, I think you should use a three-letter abbreviation. Anyway, nice work so far. It'd be nice if you included as many translations as possible, as long as you're working on the table. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 13:36, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Edit: I just noted it said "mm" on top, it looks fine now. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 13:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean by "other translations"? Today I listed the other English publications I know of. These are below the table, and in The Young Blueberry section. If you thought of not English translations... well, unfortunately I don't know about too many. I know there's a lot of Yugoslavian/Serbian ones, and the The Lost Dutchman's Mine, and The Ghost with the Golden Bullets has been published in a Hungarian black and white comics anthology. These are basically all I know. I don't know if these are relevant information.Zoli79 (talk) 20:45, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- I meant other editions/printings in English, of later year, other publishers, etc. Anyway, well done. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 23:28, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- What is “Egmont/ Methuen”? It keeps getting repeated in internet searches I have made, but only in reference to Blueberry as far as I can see. They are two separate publishers as far as I know, “linked” tangentially by the fact that when Methuen divested itself of some or all of its children’s list, Tintin went to Egmont. Egmont don’t seem to have taken on Blueberry, or re-issued Methuen translations, so have they *ever* been involved? Was Blueberry some sort of co=operative venture? Some people seem to have been confused in the past that Methuen had a number of different imprints for children’s titles, so Tintin books appeared branded as “Methuen”, “Mammoth” and “Magnet”, and may have assumed the “Egmont” name was somehow a further iteration of that process, but as far as I know, they are separate entities, and always were. Jock123 (talk) 21:47, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
- I based that info on what I found in the books themselves. Yes, it was some sort of a joint venture. Unfortunately I'm a few ten thousand miles away from my collection and can't tell you how they split the publication, printing duties. In my own private collection database this is what I have listed for publisher: Fort Navajo series #1 &2: "Egmont Publishing Limited, Methuen Children's Books Limited", #4: "Egmont Publishing Limited, Methuen Paperbacks Limited" Sorry, that's all I could help... Reorganizing
[edit]I guess this page has a lot of useful information, but I think it needs some reorganizing. I thought of the following structure. Any opinions?
1. Synopsis – Overview
2. Publication history
2.1. Original publication history (from Pilote to individual albums)
2.2. English translations
2.3. Non-English translations
2.4. Prequels and sequels
3. Legacy/importance (awards, a new type of western hero, etc.)
4. Characters
5. Movie Adaptation
6. References
7. External links
Zoli79 (talk) 00:06, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Since no one reacted to my proposal above, I reorganized the article. I think this has a more logical skeleton. If you don't like it, feel free to undo it, or - even better - to expand it. The table is very big, and cuts the article in half, maybe a separate page (list of Bluberry books) would be reasonable? Zoli79 (talk) 00:41, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Just to contribute a reaction, it seems well-structured to me. MURGH disc. 00:57, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- I put the Characters section just after the Synopsis, because this is the most used order in article dedicated to comics, and this is more appropriate. Apart this detail, no problem. --Pah777 (talk) 21:58, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Non-English translations
[edit]Wakuran wrote in his edit comment: "Well, since the Yugoslavian translations appeared before 2006, I'm moving them up, although I'm not sure if they deserve this much detail..."
I wrote one sentence on the topic, about half as much of what someone else wrote on the 2006 Egmont series just below. I don't think that is too much. I think all languages deserve that much, if it has something special to say. This is what I could add on the topic. Furthermore, I find it fascinating that Yugoslavia and Ex-Yugoslavian countries managed to publish the whole series, considering that English speaking countries couldn't do the same. Don't get me wrong, I don't even speak their language. :) Zoli79 (talk) 23:02, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- It isn't that strange, since in many countries in Europe there had already been a tradition of translating Franco-Belgian comics. Closer to home than USA. This tradition never fully reached the American or British comics market to any major extent. The Egmont publications were the first mentioned, so I added a short notice on earlier translations. Anyway, my personal opinion is that too many detailed descriptions of each translation would just clutter the article, but I won't remove your edit. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 00:12, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- OFF: As you said, there is a tradition of translating Franco-Belgian comics in Europe, but the great thing about Yugoslavia is that it managed to do that during its socialist years. They also have a massive input on Italian comics (Bonelli). They had a flourishing comics culture when the rest of the Eastern bloc had none, or something strange and isolated.
- ON: You might be right here. But if we have a chapter/section on Non-English translations, than we might as well fill it up with information. Wouldn't it be strange if we only had that one general sentence about the topic? Zoli79 (talk) 12:03, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- OFF: Okay, that's interesting, but the info isn't appropriate here, but in its own article about comics in Yugoslavia, or something.
- ON: Somehow, it should be written for general interest, it could easily turn into a laundry list full with name-dropped magazines the average reader doesn't know anything about. I wouldn't remove any info if someone would add it, but I wouldn't make any effort to write something about that aspect, myself, either. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 13:17, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- I deleted the two paragraphs about Yugoslavian and Scandinavian translations, since these attract local interest. I added a sentence about languages with total translations of the series. If anyone else has knowledge about other languages, feel free to add them. I think this is a fair way of shortening this part. Zoli79 (talk) 16:12, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, well, it looks okay now, anyway. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 20:46, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

There's a huge table about Tamil translations here. I think its disproportionate for similar reasons already written previously in this conversation. (I think we reached a consensus on this issue.) Any pros or cons before deleting? Zoli79 (talk) 22:24, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- I deleted the Tamil tables mentioned in my post above, after a weeks wait for reply. It can always be restored if we reach another consensus. I'm sorry, because I see that there was a lot of work behind it. I recommend the user to create a BB page on the Tamil WP, the content would be perfect over there!Zoli79 (talk) 09:50, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
B-Class?
[edit]I see pah777 checked in all B-class criteria. Although the article went through some major development in the past few months, I checked out two of them: coverage and reference. I think the article still has some weak points. First of all the character listing. I think the characters would need a little longer description, original names and most importantly: first and later apearances, role in the saga and of course: references. One example: Chihuahua Pearl. We get a sentence about she being a choir girl and loving money, but no information on what's really important: Blueberry's unfulfilled (?) love, and sly as a snake.
Any other weak points?Zoli79 (talk) 18:55, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- I just wonder if we must include a section "Plot summary". Since most of the albums are related (the plot never finishes at the end of an album), the full story is very complicated, so that it would be difficult to sum up in few lines.--Pah777 (talk) 14:55, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe it would be useful to divide the plot into sagas, and than write a few sentences about each. Although I'm not a big fan of plot summaries on WP... :) Zoli79 (talk) 14:27, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Settings section
[edit]I think it would also be a good thing to include a section "Settings", I believe that it is part of the criteria for an article to reach the FA status. This section must indicate the sites in which the adventures take place and specify if they consist in existing places. It also must deal with the chronology of the story. Here, in particular, it must be shown that Blueberry is a series extremely realist. For example, it must be noted that:
- All the character get older and evolve a lot.
- The adventures take place in real regions, almost no places are fictional.
- The chronology of the story is extremely coherent and specific. Each adventure is dated.
- The chronology is always compatible with the events of the History of United States: Civil War, presidencies...
- Many real events are described in the series, there is no historical errors: the rivalry between Union Pacific and Central Pacific, the deportation/extermination of Indians...
- Some non-fictional characters appear and play an important role in the series such as General Dodge, Cochise, Sitting Bull and President Grant. Indian tribes can also been added in this list: Navajos, Apaches, Cheyennes, Sioux.
- These adventures are founded upon real facts. In the original franco-belgian publication of the album Ballade pour un cercueil, Charlier dedicates four additional written pages at the beginning of the album in which he explains that Blueberry is not a fictional person (I don't know for the english edition). He asserts that he existed and relates his full biography. I do not exactly know if this biography written by Charlier is a joke or not. See here an extract of this text (on this site, it is mentionned "careful, it seems that the information in Ballade pour un cercueil are false"). If someone has more information on the subject, he will be hugely helpful.
A "Graphic style" section may also be required, but it could be merged with the "Settings" section into a section "Style" for example.
Do you/everybody agree with something like that ? If so: at work ! --Pah777 (talk) 17:43, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, a settings chapter must be useful. The official Blueberry homepage has a very fun feature for that. It places every album/saga on a map. I think the sceneries are one of the strongest aspects of the series. Zoli79 (talk) 14:24, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
